I keep thinking back to the Germans of 1944/45. As a people they went from an embrace of Nazism (reluctant or otherwise) to completely disavowing it. Whether they needed to be brought that low to do so is debatable. What will MAGA need to go through to do the same?

This is an eloquent statement of where we are. I share your optimism, but believe that for transformative moments later much suffering in the interim will have to be endured. Transformation is impossible without it.

The democratic institutions are in the process of being destroyed. Most of the US seems content to allow it to continue unabated. Is there a final judgement with consequences coming for our society if we collectively are unwilling to stop it?

Treating people as an equal isn’t necessarily an exercise in uplifting their knowledge. It’s meeting them in a place with ideas that are relatable. An 80 year old doesn’t need to learn a new word like oligarchy - where ‘ruled by a few rich white people’ is just as good.

I don’t like what was done to make you feel that way. We’re entitled to feel anger at being cast as the villains by our own leaders.

Agreed, there is an Animal Farm quality to the US right now. And then there are people acting like they're waiting for the super hero to rush in and save the day. Not realizing (yet?) that they have to be a hero this time.
