It's called moral disengagement, an extremely common set of cognitive mechanism. That's why people shouldn't be allowed to exercise power with impunity, because most of them WILL engage in moral disengagement, regardless of how "normal" they seemed before.

Do they now feel above congressional oversight? If Trump doesn't get impeached soon, Congress might as well seize to exist because this isn't a constitutional republic anymore.

He is right about the prognosis but not about the timeline. People need to understand this is the new normal. You only get through it but addressing it.
