Thankful I could walk the dog this afternoon during the golden hour at Historic Congressional Cemetery in DC and catch the light on the leaves of trees lining this path. So luminous! I stood therein the allee buffeted by wind, surrounded by golden light, warmed by the joy and delight in my heart.

Please be true!
Weeks ago, South Korea mocked Trump with a replica of the golden Cheonmachong crown, claiming it symbolized “peace.” In reality, the crown came from the Silla Kingdom, whose king was assassinated after a civil war and kingdom destroyed by corruption & rule for the wealthy.

This is the thread I needed for today. Maybe you do too. Stay strong! Elbows Up! No Kings!
I see a lot of people wringing their hands over shameless clown + white nationalist Steve Bannon insisting that Trump will serve a third term. And I get it. Folks are so traumatized and rattled regarding the past 10 years that they're letting him get under their skin.

Don't. Here's why.

This post on FB tells me what happens if the House doesn’t return to session. TLDR: there is no House. There are No checks & balances. No functioning US Govt. We are hostages. www.facebook.com/share/p/1Np5...

Experienced beekeepers should always be mentoring less experienced beekeepers. Experienced beekeepers should always be learning from more experienced beekeepers and the latest scientific research. And for Pete’s sake, never put your hive tool down-as soon as you do you will need it and have lost it
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

Serious question: what happens if the US House of Representatives never returns from recess? I’m not liking the scenarios playing out in my head.

The main benefit of the dog getting one up at 4am is the opportunity to see the stunning full moon hanging in the sky looking stunningly bright, clear, and wondrous. Despite my sleepy eyes at this ungodly hour I am thankful for this gift to experience the beauty of nature.

This sign may be just the one you need for right now. Spotted on my dog walk in DC’s Capitol Hill.

Oh the music not written! Oh the musical not played! But what a gift to have given to the V&A so that scholars and fans can explore David Bowie’s genius for years to come.

How lucky we were to have overlapped in time with this man. www.bbc.com/news/article...

Hey Schrödinger’s cat fans - enjoy this cool video that researchers made with cold atoms and AI.
Researchers have used AI to help move thousands of trapped, cold atoms into any arrangement in just 60 milliseconds. To demonstrate that ability, they created an animation of Schrödinger’s cat.

I fear that this order is legal justification to round up homeless people, and anyone else inconveniently or accidentally (eg protest encampment, bystander) adjacent to them and hold these people indefinitely - with little to no legal recourse - in concentration camps. wapo.st/4kP1UQl (gift link)

As a beekeeper, this post made my day!
I’ve been reading through Latin curse tablets (defixiones) and thought this one from Roman-period Britain was neat: someone seemingly cursing the person who stole their beehive ‘vas apium’)! 🐝 (Brit. 48.10 10; text and images: romaninscriptionsofbritain.org/inscriptions...; images by R.S.O. Tomlin)

Sometimes, when I find current world events are getting me down, I think about the quiet moments of joy I’ve experienced. One example: this bowl of homemade tagliatelle noodles with lump crab meat, salmon roe and clementine zest my husband @csrday.bsky.social made for me last week. Exquisite!

Anyone else walk through art exhibitions imagining which pieces they’d take home if they could? This one is a little bulky but worth the effort in my opinion. “Staircase in Capri” 1878, John Singer Sargent. Private collection. Currently shown in “Sargent and Paris” at The Met through Aug 3, 2025.
