It’s all about the music
Sunday listening 1: D’Angelo ‘Voodoo’ - questioning the masculine and feminine using words and beats to lubricate the ground we walk on. A gift ✊🏿
January 11, 2026 at 10:39 AM
Sunday listening 1: Various ‘All the lonely people’ - a mysterious set made up of interpretations of Beatles tunes by artists from across the globe in the late 60s/70s. Great start to the new year ✊🏿
January 4, 2026 at 11:17 AM
Sunday listening 1: Dusty Springfield ‘Longing’ - the canned record she made for ABC/Dunhill in ‘74. A real shame - her take on the west coast singer/songwriter vibe is magnificent 😂
December 28, 2025 at 10:40 AM
Sunday listening: Dexys Midnight Runners ‘Too-rye-aye’ - I can’t explain it but without doubt a record that brings back memories of Christmas. Stunning ✊🏿
December 21, 2025 at 10:57 AM
Sunday listening: Nona Hendryx ‘Nona’ - her first post-Epic album deftly insists with synth, electric lead and gospel sonics in the places you’d least expect. Extra surprises with drop ins from Laurie Anderson + Sly Dunbar. This is her Dirty Mind ✊🏿
December 14, 2025 at 11:39 AM
Sunday listening: Madonna ‘Bedtime Stories: the untold chapter’ - compilation of the tracks made with Dallas Austin during the sessions for the album. Shame the lawyers couldn’t get permission to include that other archived track. #tupacshakur rip ✊🏿
December 7, 2025 at 10:44 AM
Sunday listening: Emilia Sisco ‘Let Me In’ - taking a deep dive into some the great 7s that have come from Helsinki-based Timmion Records this year. Singles concentrate the mind! ✊🏿 #Timmion
November 30, 2025 at 10:36 AM
Sunday listening: The Family ‘The Family’ Jellybean Johnson #RIP
November 23, 2025 at 10:16 AM
Sunday listening 1: Vanessa Paradis ‘Le Retour Des Beaux Jours’ - produced with Etienne Daho, her first album in over 20 years blends wisdom and cautious optimism with a cinematic soundscape that takes in Paris, New York and Milan. Worth embracing ✊🏿
November 16, 2025 at 11:14 AM
Sunday listening: Ze Ibarra ‘AFIM’ - a brief but stunning set from the Brazilian heavens above. Been playing this for months thanks to #mrbongo. This is so worth hunting down - one of my favourite albums this year ✊🏿
November 9, 2025 at 11:03 AM
Sunday listening: Alfa Mist ‘Roulette’ - am besotted with this, a sonic journey set in an imagined near future asking question after question. Whether I’m comfortable with my own answers is another thing. And what a great sleeve. ✊🏿
November 2, 2025 at 10:27 AM
Sunday listening: Billie Ray Martin ‘4 ambient tales’ - I’ve read so many lovely tributes to Dave Ball who sadly passed away this week but there’s been scant mention of his work with BRM. One of those rare sonic meeting of the minds that yield something special ✊🏿 #RIPDaveBall #billieraymartin
October 26, 2025 at 10:28 AM
Sunday listening 1: #tanitatikaram ‘LIAR’ - I wasn’t expecting to be seduced by a thunderous but so gentle orchestral folk set. Is it the autumn day, is it age, is it 2025 - whatever it is, I’m amazed ✊🏿#supportindependentartists
October 19, 2025 at 9:57 AM
Sunday listening: Jamie Woon ‘3, 10, why, when’ - his first album in 10 years is a surprising sonic canvas of growing up in the shadow of electronic music. Spin a few tunes and rewards will certainly surface ✊🏿
October 12, 2025 at 9:44 AM
Sunday listening: Mariah Carey: ‘Here for it all’ - best described as Mariah’s make-up free album. A strong Sunday morning feel - reflections after the party, life musings and worship. The last two tracks are blustering! A hip hop AG set next please ✊🏿
October 5, 2025 at 10:27 AM
Sunday listening: #dustyspringfield ‘I don’t want to hear it anymore’ - revisiting Dusty’s glorious b-side gems. This will always be my favourite ✊🏿
September 28, 2025 at 10:27 AM
Sunday listening: Jade ‘That’s showbiz baby’ - wow I was really not expecting to like this as much as I do. Anyone who ends a verse with the words ‘you make me sick’ is worthy of praise. Surprise of the year ✊🏿
September 21, 2025 at 10:03 AM
Sunday listening: Saint Etienne ‘International’ - the final album from Bob, Pete and Sarah has been playing constantly since it came out last week. A set that brings together everything wonderful about them. Marvellous ✊🏿 #saintetienne
September 14, 2025 at 9:30 AM
Sunday listening: #MeshellNdegeocello ‘Ventriloquism’ - reinterpretations of songs that to some could be deemed untouchable. Just hearing ‘Waterfalls’ makes everything alright ✊🏿
September 7, 2025 at 9:34 AM
Sunday listening: Billy Preston ‘That’s the way god planned it’ - his ‘69 album on Apple is a strong gospel blues set infused with an electronic rock aroma courtesy of George Harrison. The perfect end to August. Thanks #superflyrecords ✊🏿 #Paris2025
August 31, 2025 at 9:48 AM
Sunday listening 1: Miles Davis Quintet ‘Ascenseur pour l’echafaud’ - totally thrilled to find a copy of the soundtrack to Louis Malle’s film ‘58 in a Paris corner. The mood of these pieces truly indicate the records that followed very soon after. Captivating yet circumspect, nice ✊🏿#Paris2025
August 24, 2025 at 9:49 AM
Sunday listening: Prince: the black album - another Betino jewel and probably my Paris find. It’s inconceivable that an artist could call a major label and demand that all copies of an lp as good as this be destroyed days before it was due to hit record shops. And it happened. Love this ✊🏿#Paris2025
August 17, 2025 at 9:26 AM
Sunday listening: Jimmie and Vella ‘jimmie & vella’ - thrilled to find a copy of their ‘72 set for Atlantic in Betino. A seductive psychedelic soul, rock, gospel set that pulls you in and doesn’t let go. Right now this is all I want to hear ✊🏿 #Paris2025
August 10, 2025 at 9:28 AM
Sunday listening: Lady Gaga ‘Mayhem’ - industrial arias? pop songs? future listening features? bewildering and bewitching ✊🏿
August 3, 2025 at 9:41 AM
Sunday listening: #tylerthecreator ‘Don’t tap the glass’ - this week’s lp drop was a 28 min set with an eye on a dancefloor, ears pounding with synths and samples accompanying a head with stuff to say. It’s good ✊🏿
