I write mystery novels with imperfect characters... art thieves with amnesia... out-of-work travel bloggers... impostors that have trouble lying...

With a few tweaks and the character creator, Sora might be my new time sink when I'm supposed to be writing. Happy Halloween. 🎃

April Cross has just been fired from her job as a fact-checker at an online magazine. (She accidentally sent a stringer to cover Sasquatch Fest instead of the Scotch Festival.) Her new job goal is to find viral-level ratings for her fledgling podcast and a free place to sleep. #AmQuerying #WIP

#Sora did a great job using my graphics to create a book trailer for Double Cross. It's not perfect, but it did capture the gist of the story's theme and mood. Meanwhile, my husband is making animated cat videos.😹

📖 Excerpt

“Tell me about where you’re going.”

“An old Irish estate,” I said, recovering. “The house has a tower and is over five hundred years old, a bit gothic and lots of history.” It was my practiced, vague, yet intriguing pitch line. It had taken me hours to craft, revise, toss, and rewrite.

Pitching Now! Wish me 🍀

When 28-year-old April Cross experiences an unplanned career change, she creates a fledgling podcast, pinning its success on a majestic Irish estate. Only her host is no stranger, and her stay comes with a condition: help solve a murder and find out who wants him dead.

Crazy experiences and working in ad media go together like a NASCAR legend and a pool shark. This was a private party at a NADA conference a few years back. 🎱

🕸️ Early Halloween decor or just a writer too absorbed with copy edits to notice the spider’s handiwork? I swear that wasn’t there when I started this revision. 👩🏻‍💻

I can’t resist a great book cover and ended up with three new reads from Killer Nashville. Stellar cover design across a series makes these soooooo collectible. 👏

Killer Nashville was inspiring for so many reasons, but hearing @saraparetsky.bsky.social speak will be the most memorable. I’m so moved by her strength and the boldness her voice gives the mystery genre. 👏🕵🏻‍♀️

I have 5 📝 📝 📝 📝 📝 manuscript requests! Today was all about combing through submission chapters to ferret out typos, unnecessary dialogue tags, sighs, winks, and characters waxing overly dramatic. I think all this hard work deserves ice cream. 🙌

Killer Nashville 2025 winds down tomorrow—but first we pitch! The manuscript requests stand at 3. Who's up for a 70K contemporary amateur sleuth mystery set in Ireland? There's humor, murder, double crosses, and a family motto that says it all: In Death, Duty. ☘️

The graphic designers at Sky Tree Tower in Tokyo love a good mystery! 🔎

The real heroes (and villains) in art mysteries aren’t the gadgets—they’re the people. Every choice, every mistake, can tip the balance. And the gallery is the ultimate stage. Check out my guest post "Humans vs. Thieves" on Curators of Crime. curatorsofcrime.substack.com/p/guest-post...

I’m copy editing at Starbucks today and someone is playing bird videos. It’s like being in an arboretum with refreshments.🙂 🦜

What happens at Book Club stays at Book Club;) But I can share how much fun I had talking about Wired To Steal, art heists, writing, fav books & next reads. I definitely heard your call for more Alex Ford in book 3! Thanks so much for inviting me — your hospitality made my week! 💕📖

My latest reads, and a few old favorites I like to revisit. All of these are ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. A special shoutout to The "Twisted Women's Book Club"—a superb blend of short stories that twist into a larger tale. @catrionamcp.bsky.social "In Place of Fear" is my pick for a 13-hour flight this week!

Let me introduce my talented "Art, Archaeology, Architecture and Murder" co-panelists from this past weekend's Malice Domestic 37! Thank you for making my first MC memorable! 🫖

My first Malice Domestic is in the books! I filled my bingo card with a book signing, spoke on an art crime and architecture panel, chatted murder and kidnapping over salads, and picked up 20 lbs of new books to take home. Thank you to the wonderful readers who took the time to hear about my books!

My camera roll has 561 photos of my cats. I’m not a cat lady though? Right? Is there an intervention for this? (Things that pop into my head when I should be writing…)
