I saw pictures today taken from the Washington Monument of the wreckage of the East Wing. Truly sad. But also truly a metaphor for the wreckage Trump causes every day. We must work on electing a Congress not afraid to retake its role as a check. Could he also bulldoze the Monument?

The Senate bill to reopen the govt somehow, for some unknown reason, includes a provision that will give some Senators millions of dollars. What the hell are they trying to pull! No $ for health insurance but millions to line Senators pockets.

I know there will be much disagreement, but credit to the handful of Senate Dems who said “enough”. Kids going hungry, employees going unpaid, travel limited if not unsafe. The point has been made. Sooner or later, this session, heath care won’t happen without some Republican votes.

Iowa’s defensive line was bullied by Oregon’s O-line & running backs. Otherwise, a good effort by the Hawkeyes ends in heartbreak!

Finally today a reporter asked Trump to comment on Chief Justice Roberts description of the tariffs as taxes paid by the American people. The President’s response reflects either complete incompetence or an outright lie. He did finally, albeit weakly, admit that Americans may be paying “something”.

I’ve said before that most of Trump’s tariffs are illegal. Two lower courts have ruled I was right. Today that issue reached the Supreme Court. I’m heartened by the fact that Neal Katyal was arguing that side of the issue. He is a very talented advocate and thoroughly prepared. Now we wait.

Watching Trump on 60 Minutes tonight: lots of lies, lots of delusions. It gets sadder and sadder that this man is the leader of the free world. Will the Republican Senate please assume some leadership!

Randy Feenstra announced his bid for Iowa Governor by proclaiming that he will bring Trump’s “America First” policy to Iowa. Hasn’t he seen the error of that approach? We need more, not less, multi-national participation. Let’s elect Rob Sand.

Thanks to Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky for leading 4 other Republicans to attempt what’s right and end the illegal revenge tariffs on Brazil. Unfortunately, House Republicans haven’t yet found that courage.

Riddle me this. Trump cancels $ to help starving children in Africa. But he gives $20 million (maybe even $40) to his pal in Argentina. Is it possible that he wants to build a luxury hotel there?
October 25, 2025 at 2:25 AM
When Trump won last November I expected much of what I held dear would get demolished. The East Wing was not among them. 😪

Speaker Johnson is embarrassing himself by his pathetic explanations for failing to swear-in a newly elected Member from Arizona. And now he tells us those who took to the streets for the No Kings rallies hate America. He’s unworthy of the position he holds.
October 21, 2025 at 12:58 AM
Donald Trump has a personal right to take a side in Argentina’s election. He cannot, however, do so with our money. An absolutely illegal expenditure. Will Congress continue to sit on its hands?

Interesting story following Iowa’s win Saturday: in the late ‘90’s Hayden Fry recruited Jerry Montgomery from Mesquite. Jerry was an outstanding D lineman & has become an outstanding Coach—now with Cinninati Bengals. Jerry’s son started at lb for Iowa Saturday. Kirk Ferentz coached them both!

How about those Hawkeyes!!! 37-0 over Wisconsin.
October 12, 2025 at 2:13 AM
Pam Bondi disgraces the history and role in our democracy of the US Attorney General. Her prosecution of Trump’s enemy’s list is unethical. Her not answering congressional oversight questions is dereliction of duty. Her obedience to Trump is an abdication of her oath.
October 10, 2025 at 4:03 AM
It has not taken long for Donald Trump to convince me of what I feared. He is the worst, most devisive, most destructive and incompetent President in our history. Unfortunately, the co-equal legislative branch is sitting on its hands not helping.
October 6, 2025 at 7:49 PM
We just traveled 1000 miles on I-80. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill that many Republicans voted against is at work making that road better for the future and putting many Americans to work. Thank you Joe Biden! Your accomplishment will last for a long time.

The President’s racist, vile AI post tonight raises serious questions about his mental condition. Will his family, the Cabinet and Republican Senators please consider a personal intervention and whether the 25th Amendment should be considered.

Men in plain clothes, no identifying items, saying they were federal agents but showing no identification, seized a man and drove away in an unmarked car yesterday in Iowa City. This occurred in mid-morning in a business
where the man worked. This is a very dangerous approach. Fix it Congress!

I understand that Trump alleged Lisa Cook committed fraud by claiming 2 homes were her residence. How does that compare to the fact he is living at Mar-a-Largo when he agreed it would not be used for a residence? Sounds like fraud to me.
September 25, 2025 at 2:38 AM
So Dr. Trump and Dr. Kennedy are telling women how to handle their pregnancies! Maybe they slept in a Holiday Inn last night. I’m sure those women will continue to get advice from their real doctors.

Finally, a small glimpse of concern over RFKJr. From a Republican. Sen Cassidy knew better when he voted to confirm but he caved to Trump. RFKJr would not be HHS Scty but for Sen Cassidy’s yes vote. Let’s see if he has the courage to do something about his mistake:

Addressing today’s tragedy, Speaker Johnson, quite rightly, urged us to respect one another. I hope he’ll take that message to the President who almost daily insults or vilifies someone.
September 11, 2025 at 1:32 AM
Perhaps the most common news leads re the Trump administration is “Federal Judge blocks . . .” Thank you to the Founders who created 3 co-equal branches!
