Tired Daisy

Shooting macro or close up work is a good challenge. It gets you thinking about planes of focus, depth of field, diffraction and composition. It can also be a kind of meditation - which, I believe is true of most types of photography.

I initially rejected this image as it didn’t fit with the idea I had in my mind when I began the session. It kept popping into my mind though and, after living with it for a while, I decided to make a few edits.

Embrace - 2011

Another long exposure/light painting image from the Transient Luminous Events series. Only a 23 second exposure so I worked relatively quickly compared to other larger scale setups.

Willpower - 2011

Seems like an appropriate image for the times.

The exposure time was about 4 minutes and I distinctly remember tripping in the dark several times while painting the background. 😊

Offering up a brief distraction from the events of the day. Sheltered Light - 2011. Another image from the Transient Luminous Events series. Roughly 1 minute exposure.

Light Spray - 2011

From the Time Exposure series. Visualizing the skin exposure and path is always the most challenging aspect of these images. 3 ½ minutes doesn’t seem long until you have to stay still.

Twisting Light - 2011
From the Transient Luminous Events series. What started as lighting tests evolved into a series of images. Mostly shorter exposures and a smaller scale but some interesting light and color.

I thought I’d share one of my favorite images for my first post on Bluesky. Islomania from 2010. It’s a long exposure - roughly 5 minutes - with a lot of running around in the dark with flashlights and such. Marie is a very patient model and I will be working with her again this weekend.
