My new favourite tradition is hiding some money with the decorations when you put them away, so you can treat yourself to fancy shmancy nibbles and a drink in the skint Christmas lead-up as a reward for managing to get the Christmas tree up.

I was so sure I wasn’t going to decorate for Christmas this weekend, then someone sent us a tiny tree in the post and things escalated and I’m not mad about it (though it’s possible that Biscuit is, just a little)

Had the most lovely time yesterday gathering people to make rag wreaths. Doing a proper wreath workshop (as lush as they are) is always out my budget, so I tentatively asked on the local FB page if anyone wanted to make the cloth versions with me. Nearly 40 people came along and it was pure joy.

Home working is today sponsored by a tiny ghost.

Too poorly for nursery, but not too poorly to spook.

My other half has instigated a new household tradition called ‘Payday poptarts’.

I have zero objections.

My rescue cheese plant’s posture gives me such strong Randall Boggs vibes and I now can’t unsee it.

Amongst all that is messy and chaotic and tragic in the world… snowfall on the beach is just the purest of joys.

Somehow, tentatively asking locally if anyone might want to make rag wreaths together has evolved into 40 people coming along to make them with me in a local tearoom next Thursday… I’m both daunted and excited! (and I have a lot of fabric scraps to chop up before then…)

The therapeutic benefits of 10 minutes with the sea, sky and Bon Iver cannot be overstated.

We’ve yet another academic Biscuit - this time a guinea pig (or as we like to think of him, a miniature capybara). Loves to wheek loudly during Zoom meetings and snuggle in me elbow crook during thesis chapter writing.

Asking if any strangers on the village Facebook group wanted to come hang out and play board games (since we’re still quite new here and getting to know people) felt like a bit of a gamble - but we’ve had the best evening. 10/10 would recommend.

Last weekend an old friend came to visit us and brought us a crocheted Totoro as a gift because he is the purest human ever
