I feel like the other "VCF [cardinal direction]"s have all been in the US, so maybe they were concerned that calling it North would make people think it was in the US?

Ooh, that looks like fun. Montreal isn't a bad drive for me, either. Either they're popular or got a small hotel block, since I just reserved my room and there were only like four rooms left (or maybe only four king rooms left? Not sure exactly what the reservation system was trying to tell me.).

There's an old (not sure if true) story in the musicological world that Handel turned down an honorary degree from Oxford because it would've cost him money, saying he didn't want to pay to do what "those blockheads" wanted, so you're in good company on this one.

"Atlanta Burns" is either an awkward or an amazing name from a city that famously got burned down at one point.

Anyway, I preordered one, but if they succeed I really hope we get a Commodore that values the community rather than one that thinks it can somehow turn back the clock on social media and AI.
July 19, 2025 at 5:08 PM
And it's pretty obvious why they'd try to create continuity with the original Commodore, but I think it'd be more appealing if they talked more about continuity of legacy and values and less like they've popped out of an alternate dimension where Commodore never went bust. /7

Heck, their marketing people don't even seem to know what's appealing about their product...e.g. there's no mention that the system has a mechanical keyboard unless you dig into the tech specs. You'd think a feature like that should be front and center. /6

They're offering proven products at a competitive price, but they're coming off like a fly-by-night Kickstarter. /5
July 19, 2025 at 5:01 PM
And the attempt at mass-market appeal via "digital detox" seems obviously a terrible idea for a product that'll need a lot of spreading via word-of-mouth (which nowadays means social media). /4
July 19, 2025 at 5:00 PM
I really think they'd be selling better if they highlighted their community connections and the community origins of their product rather than glossing over it. /3

The idea of getting a mainstay brand of the retro community into the the hands of community members and licensing the brand in a community-friendly way is a great idea. But between Perifractic's original videos and the launch of the product, they seem to have shifted strategies. /2

Nice! Looks like fun! Is it going to be local multiplayer, online, or both? Also, will yall target the Steam Deck?

I loved seeing yall there and the concert was a blast! Can't say I've ever seen a Commodore played live on stage before.

I love the wood siding. Seems like a very @lgr-yt.bsky.social -esque touch.
