Here it is.

It doesn't look great.

The texture is not great.

I don't presume to know a Grecian hero's palate, but if I were on my sickbed, I should want any of the other variants over this.

BUT NOW I KNOW. And @cpgorski.bsky.social and I have Thoughts for future experiments.

But we couldn't leave it there. So, being that the word in the Iliad and Odyssey can be translated as "barley groats", we tried a variant with the whole, cooked grains.

Again, this was fine! I think it would've been better if the barley had been cooked in the dilute wine mix, but it was fine.

So the first iteration of this was - frankly - the best surprise of the night. We added a little of the wine mix to cups, with a pinch of malted barley meal and a pinch of grated mizithra cheese.

It was...good! I liked it! I would drink it again! The cheese sank to the bottom, but ok!

The chewing of the grains definitely took away from the refreshing nature of the first one...but it was fine.

Third, we ground some meal from malted barley (with an obliging coffee grinder) and added a hefty pinch to the barley water-mint mixture. A bit thicker, but not a porridge.

This was nice - refreshing, something I could see drinking on an empty or upset stomach.

Then we tried more of a...barley soup? approach - same thing, essentially, but with some of the cooked pearled barley added. It was fine. We used some of the pearled barley water - definitely starchier.

For efficiency's sake, we started by lightly toasting about 1/2c each of malted barley and pearled barley, then boiling those (separately) with 2c water each, ~15 min. This way, we'd have barley water(s) to work with, and cooked grains to use as we liked.

I don't disagree, but also this is one of my favorite takes on the 5 of Swords for the sheer, ruthless audacity of it.

A piece I made to be the cover of my personal 'hymnal'.

...obviously, much credit to Sacred Source catalogs. 😆

Last summer's strawberry galette - lopsided, messy, made with storebought puff pastry...and omfgs, delicious.

Oh, Eleusis was a deeply important delight for me. It was rainy and chilly when we were there, but it was glorious. One of the employees kept a very careful eye on us - and his dog was all too happy to help out. This pup also attempted to go visit Cerberus via the Ploutonion and was gently scolded.

Gonna (non-traditionally) wassail some (non-apple) fruit trees tonight. Thinking of you and yours, @lissaharris.bsky.social . <3

Well may you bloom and well may you bear!

Prepping the Augmented BRFRO handouts (with Arcana-specific wassail on the reverse) for community Yule ritual tomorrow. Continually grateful for you, this, and the righteous racket that comes with it.

This homegrown version of a classic brought to you by my rain-swollen gals who were literally bursting with enthusiasm to be plucked.

It's not exactly a bug, but will a determined land mollusc do?

It looks to me like she's talking about the *content* of Project 2025, not endorsing it - quite the contrary.

You're not alone! I have a really hard time with this, too, so I do everything I can to make masking feel less like medical shit and more like ✨accessorizing✨. Even then, it's hard for my brain.

Did I *expect* my meeting with a local hospital chaplain re: resources for supporting pagan patients to result in being gifted a copy of this article?

No.

Am I thrilled about it?

EXTREMELY.

Tell me where you were born using just one image of food.

(My preference is a chipped ham with cheese and cheddar rounds, but I couldn't find a picture of that.)

Spouse and I are listening to the audiobook, currently. He also just bought me the stout pictured below, and I'm having large Bad Cookie feelings about it. 😈

Ok, but now I want this card, to go along with such classics as the 10 of swords from the Modern Witch Tarot.

My stickers from @unknownbinaries.bsky.social arrived (bottom left and top right), and I'm really delighted with them. The quote from *The Invisibles*, in particular, is important to me.

This is not particularly flirty, but I enjoyed the silliness of it. I am, here, demonstrating the use of an oft-overlooked tool in the practice of Kitchen Witchery: Þe Olde Wande ov Carrotte.

There are many poems I love, more that I like, and more still that I can appreciate. But there are a few that I carry, in their entirety, in my head and heart.

One of them is "Love Is Not All (Sonnet XXX)" by Edna St. Vincent Millay
