#Genealogy Bluesky, some heraldry help!

I have a coat of arms for the Quéraud name, but I’m not sure it’s accurate (I’ve only ever seen it on an estate’s keystone) and believe it may be associated with just five sisters.

Any info (or point me to a source) would be appreciated!

Little call-out for help to historians of France!

I'd like to consult some documents at the Bibliothèque de l'Institut de France, but I need some recommendations from existing members – are there any out there who wouldn't mind? 🙏 🇫🇷 🗃️

Just tossing this out into the universe: Does anyone have access to a copy of “De châteaux en logis; itinéraires des familles de la Vendée: Les archives de Guy de Raigniac”?

I need reference info on my French Huguenot ancestors and it’s not available digitally.

You really never know what you’ll find when new genealogy records are digitized. I found five family members who had originally been buried in Wallabout Cemetery in Brooklyn, then moved as a group years later, to be permanently interred at Green-Wood. 🌳

Any French speakers here? I could use some genealogy help on an alternative spelling (ie does Queraud sound like Coyaud to French ears?)

Open-source investigative techniques are useful for analysing all manner of current events. But they can also be used to identify pictures from the distant past, as @annique.bsky.social discovered when she began looking at ‘mystery’ photographs from WWII

Wondering if anyone here in the genealogy 🧬 or history community has any insight into what this Rhode Island colonial army (1740) board payment may have been for.

It seems to be something beyond their usual pay. Were these soldiers given paid leave?

Just a little shoutout to *both* the Rhode Island Historical Society and the RI Department of State’s reference desk.

I sent a request for information (regarding a colonial soldier) early last week and received an answer — including scans and explanations — THE NEXT DAY.

Highly recommend! 🧐🧬
