"Dick Cheney is an EVIL ROBOT."

Photographed (by me) at a protest marching past the 2004 Republican National Convention, New York City.

Dick Cheney, January 30, 1941 – November 3, 2025, Vice-President of the United States, "considered by many to be the architect of the Iraq War."

"The horrific images from a virtual tour of Gaza's Nasser Hospital – before Israel shelled it this week – make it clearer than ever: The power is in our hands. We must stop the atrocities committed in our name," writes Israeli pediatrician Michal Feldon @haaretzcom.bsky.social

The Hebrew words on this sticker translate to "Financed Hamas."

For years, the Qatari government had been sending millions of dollars a month into the Gaza Strip — money that helped prop up the Hamas government there.

Netanyahu not only tolerated those payments, he had encouraged them.

I spent a night in "Paris" recently when my Air France flight was cancelled. This is the lovely view from the window of my hotel not far from Charles de Gaulle airport. Where are the wide boulevards and cyclists toting crusty baguettes?

At least there was a nice tree.

August is Women in Translation Month, or #WITMonth, an annual celebration of women writers from around the world.

Here's the stack of books by women in translation that I read over the past 11 months since last August.

Titles, authors and translators in the comments.

This Orphean Warbler is one of many small songbirds that stop and feed in the spring at the Jerusalem Bird Observatory.

For @momentmagazine.bsky.social I wrote about the impacts of Middle East wars on migrating songbirds, pelicans, cranes and barn owls.

War is terrible for birds as well as humans.

Happy day in the Bohemian Woods at #WoodstockBio #TCTeAC debating the question, "Does science take away the beauty of the world we experience?"

Me: Of course not, look around you and admire the beauty of biology and evolution.

"It is fundamentally the courage and dignity of Gaza's men and women, even when plunged into such horror, that give me reasons to hope, despite everything."
