It was shoddy editing. It was not "the Director General and CEO of News must resign" territory.

The BBC must reassert its independence and learn to resist political interference and stand up for robust scrutiny and news values.

The Culture Sec Lisa Nandy must also resist Trumpian pressure in appointing the new DG. It's messy and the Beeb is in trouble, but we should fight for its future.

Trump is now promoting right-wing channel GB News over Britain's flagship national broadcaster. GB News has been repeatedly sanctioned for misleading and conspiracy theory content. The Telegraph has faced a stream of press watchdog probes for misleading reporting, particularly on the climate.

Michael Prescott, behind the leaked dossier, is a corporate lobbyist and former Murdoch press man.

The BBC belongs to all of us here in the UK. It is still highly trusted and vital.

It doesn’t belong to the US, shady think tanks, or vested interests in the media. It needs to grow a backbone.

The former Chairman of the BBC, Richard Sharp, helped secure then-Tory PM Boris Johnson a loan for £800.000.

And still there is a pattern of right-wing attacks on the BBC. Johnson and his top adviser Cummings wanted the BBC destroyed. They did not hide it well.

The left-wing bias claim is nuts – Davie, a former Tory candidate, had overseen the BBC drawing up plans to win over voters of Reform UK, as my Byline colleague @adambienkov.bsky.social reported in June. BBC board member Robbie Gibb helped set up GB News - which is now cheering the Beeb's turmoil.

We all need to appreciate the lunacy of ostensibly British 'patriotic' outlets cheering on a foreign leader threatening to bring down one of our country's most valued institutions.

Yes, as I understand it MoU have got the cash from the start. The data itself has been slightly all over the place, re. the rogue membership launch

The vote to found YP was by members of 'Collective' I believe (Karie Murphy's org linked to Corbyn, which operated as a kind of steering committee before YP's launch). But I need to double check that detail.
