Despite Trump's bellicose rhetoric about defending religious minorities in Nigeria, he has single-handedly torpedoed the single most obvious way to protect people facing religious persecution: namely, asylum.

If there’s one position on asylum that I would consider “unreasonable,” it’s the one the White House has adopted: namely, that any person, no matter what danger they have fled, can be summarily returned to the hands of their persecutors

I am astounded that anyone could defend Trump’s immigration policies, while simultaneously claiming that they support the right of asylum seekers to “be heard” in principle. But that is what one tech bro appears to have done:

Earlier this year, SCOTUS rightly stopped Trump from renditioning more people to CECOT. But now, they are letting him get away with sending people to a similar fate in Africa. Thoughts on our increasingly compromised judiciary:

Trump really has created the 'legal abyss' that some observers feared when he first started deporting people to CECOT"

The release of 250 Venezuelan hostages that the U.S. wrongfully held captive in CECOT is "good news"—but what does it say about what our country has become? And what justice or redress will these men ever receive for what was done to them?

Kavanaugh's bizarre concurrence in today's birthright citizenship case essentially reads as a proposal for the entire judicial function to be swallowed up in the Court's shadow docket. "Don't worry about nationwide injunctions—we can do everything through unreasoned emergency stay applications"

The Supreme Court is effectively nullifying people's legal rights—and thus the rule of law. They did it with asylum; then the Convention Against Torture; and now birthright citizenship. Asylum really was the canary in the coal mine
