First night in DC and I see this rat chowing down on a massive pile of vomit. Feels like there's a metaphor here for how senate Dems look while trying to sell the vote they're going to get on ACA subsidies as a win of some kind.

3. Dwyer was also the founder and president of KU's TP USA chapter and, after Kirk's assassination, said he hoped to prevent "divisive rhetoric".
The man who founded a chapter of Charlie Kirk's organization was afraid of "divisive" rhetoric. Just incredible stuff.

2. One member of the chat was Alex Dwyer, the chair of the Kansas Young Republicans. He joked about trump covering up the Epstein scandal.

A story in several parts:
1. Private chat of young Republicans from across the country is leaked. Shocker, they're casually discussing gassing perceived enemies and using the n word.

When the devil finishes his pitch, the poet is unmoved. Speaking back to him, he turns the devil's message on its head. Defiant, he says that he'll keep talking and preaching hoping that someone, anyone, will hear. The message is too important. He turns the siren song into a clarion call.

The temptation is not in the form of a deal, his soul for riches and fame, but is more a siren song, tempting him to turn into the rocky shoals of despair. The devil tells him no one is listening to his message, that the people don't want to hear it & when he dies, he will be immediately forgotten.

Reading Mahmoud Khalil's op ed this morning reminded me of an old Kris Kristofferson song, this passage in particular. The song, To Beat the Devil, is about a truth-telling poet whose message is falling on deaf ears. Feeling defeated, be walks into a bar where the devil tempts him with a song.

Violent crime plotted against incarceration numbers. All of the $ spent and lives and communities destroyed and we’re rewarded with a rate of violent crime we had before the advent of mass incarceration. This is why abolition is the future. Incarceration doesn’t work even on its own terms.

FBI's dashboard for violent crime in KS is way off for the decade from 1993-2003. Using their own UCR reports from that time, the rates reported in their dashboard are about 1/4 what they should be. Not sure why it's wrong, but it's not even close. This dip should not exist.

You’ll be shocked to hear that this man was tailgating me on the interstate while in the right lane. And as long as we’re talking about the law, it’s illegal to not have a rear license plate.
