We hope this approach supports more transparent, flexible, and evidence-based planning for land, climate, and biodiversity goals.

📚 This work builds on our previous research looking at spatially explicit land use scenarios:

Spatially targeted nature-based solutions can mitigate climate change and nature loss but require a systems approach
Halting climate change requires net greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to at least fall to zero. UK land (including agriculture, forestry, and peatlands) is currently a net emitter of GHGs. Reducing these...

🔍 Key findings:
• Many different routes can deliver net zero
• Some pathways are clearly more efficient - better outcomes with fewer trade-offs
• The scale of decision-making (UK-wide vs devolved nations) affects not just efficiency, but equity too

We generated 10,000 random UK land use pathways - each combining different quantities and combinations of eight climate mitigation measures.

The aim? To identify which combinations perform best across climate, food, and biodiversity outcomes.
