New rule: you cannot use the word “performative“ unless you have read Austin and/or Butler and can explain the difference between performative and performance

I get this so much.

Potlucks are acceptable and delightful. Turning someone away because they can’t bring a dish to a potluck is not.

Ask them reconsider over email or somewhere private. Often I think they just need to be affirmed to work through their insecurities

Yeah. Thanks! Like, I want to assume good intent of the reviewer but I’m also scratching my head about how I could even go about this without changing my entire focus

Trying to work through a review I got that gave many suggestions about what I should have done instead. And, like, that article would be great but it’s not helping me to revise the article I actually did write. (And they admit they aren’t knowledgeable about the theoretical tradition I’m invoking)
