Mayor Young, Gov Lee, & President Trump all say that the Memphis Safe Task Force is necessary to combat violent crime. But apparently not on the weekends.

Memphis' jail has 200 more people in it this morning than it did last Monday after the President and the Governor unleashed 200 federal agents onto our streets to work w/ a police dept that has been found to routinely violate our rights.

Despite what you see in this photograph, this is a pedestrian passageway at Civic Center Plaza in Memphis. There is barely room to walk between the cars. Our city and county governments say they prioritize public spaces and walking, but then this - a government employee parking lot on the sidewalk.

Also included in the Memphis PD's list of reasons: a focus on arresting "those with active warrants." Set aside that that should probably be a basic function of any law enforcement agency, do we know that a disproportionate number of murders are committed by people with outstanding warrants?
