“Now Scientific American has updated and re-released what it calls the “classic graphic” that shows that a human on a bicycle—able to coast, or freewheel, without pedaling—remains the world’s most energy effecient traveler.” @carltonreid.com on the re-release of the iconic graph in @forbes.com.

I would add that it increases the number of total bikers from “I used to bike as a kid but never do now” to “I rode over 1000 miles last year”.

For me - an e-bike allowed me to push through a 5 mike commute down and up a river valley with 200 ft change in elevation. 500 watts gives the little extra
The “E-Bike Effect:” Those who bought e-bikes increased their average daily bicycle use from 2.1km (1.3 miles) to 9.2km (5.7 miles), a 340% increase. The e-bike share of all their transportation increased dramatically too; from 17% to 49%.

E-bikes support fewer car trips.

With 60% of trips by bike, teens are the age group that cycle the most in the Netherlands—over 2,000 km. per capita per year.

Rather than spend these years depending on parents and waiting for a driver’s license, they experience the autonomy promised by the car without its stress, danger, and cost.

In 2022, I bought an E-bike to commute to work. I recently passed 5000km (about 25,000 furlong’s to you US folks)

I’m now “one of those E-bike fanatics” that can’t say enough good things about them.
I’m healthier, I have a great commute along trails, the river, see wildlife, save $ & co2.

Never forget, a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users.

ALL ROAD USERS.

And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all. For sharrows, it’s safer to NOT have them.
