The view outside the homestead had been pretty atmospheric this last week. Looking down the canyon below our place. #landscape #photography #clouds #trees

This is my friend Roscoe. We've bonded over the years. Some days he comes along when I walk the dogs. He's allowed me within 6 feet of him. Pretty special relationship. #raven #corvid #wildlifephotography #wildlife #bird #photography

Literally just walked out onto our back deck and this pretty lady was staring straight up at me. Ran back in for my camera but she was gone, so I made an educated guess and caught her moving off our property into the neighboring lot. #bobcat #wildlife #wildlifephotography #photography

Good morning #blueskyfam! Here's a raven trying to wrap its head around a California Condor's sheer size. #raven #corvid #wildlifephotography #photography #condor #californiacondor

The closer we are to the land, the more obvious it is that we are not separate from it.

Not a bad problem to have after Facebook compression. Here are my Lightroom export settings for social media generally and have had no issues with funky viewing. Hope that helps. Oh, and almost everything is a 3:2 ratio

Like something straight out of Game of Thrones, one of the most dramatic cave entrances I've found. This is Conglomerate Mesa - prehistorically this was a shelter used by indigenous people. There are no artifacts here - picked clean by visitors. #protectconglomeratemesa #cave #prehistory #publicland

The advantage of winter camping is very few people are as masochistic as I am. 😆 #offgrid #backcountry #wintercamping #offroad #camping #california #deathvalley #nationaparks

Not a sight most associate with Death Valley, but at higher elevations in these mixed pinyon/juniper forests, wildlife abounds. Typical plants here: ephedra, sagebrush, California buckwheat. #wildlife #muledeer #deer #photography #landscape #deathvalley #backcountry

Once again, we're in a fight for this incredible place's existence. Conglomerate Mesa is on the doorstep to Death Valley and they want to reduce it to rubble. Give the wild a chance, please. More at protectconglomeratemesa.com

Last trip to the backcountry got a little nippy. Dropped to 31F - not the coldest I've camped in, but still warranted a few extra layers. #camping #offroad #exploring #backcountry #deathvalley

I interviewed a master tracker for a publication I write for and it called to mind this book that absolutely enthralled me. Dersu could tell intimate details about an animal based solely on their tracks. #tracking #tracker #exploring #animals

Encountered an injured vulture, chased her down a mountain and caught her. Drove 5 hours round trip to a sanctuary. Sadly, she was too far gone. Sorry, Val, wish I'd found you sooner. Fly free.

Tap, tap. Is this thing on? Hi! Here's one of my favorite places in the wild public lands of the Mojave.
