A legend — and even more interesting than most of us knew. He was always my first stop when picking up the Reader on Thursday back in the day. RIP. www.inclusivefuneralcare.com/m/obituaries...

Was telling someone recently the thing I miss most in modern IPAs/pale ales is that pine and especially resin character. Phase Three hasn’t forgotten. This is great.

Tonight at Hop Butcher, I’ll be in conversation with Peter Strom & Chris Depa, the first two people to work Malört, who helped put it on the path to what it has become.

Next Monday, Dec. 9 at Marz Brewing, I’ll talk live and unrehearsed with Tremaine Atkinson, owner of CH Distillery (and Jeppson’s Malört) for some real talk on the book and Malört — where it came from/where it’s going.

7-9 pm, specials on Malört shots & Malört Spritz; signed books for sale.

He asked where I was from and I told him I was a Chicago native and lifelong fan and raising my kids the same. He paused, reached into his bag and gave me these coins for them.

One of my favorite things to do at a Malört reading is to take this photo. I don’t always remember, but I did last night at Bryant’s in Milwaukee. An amazing bar literally trapped in 1971. So much fun. More events to come!
