Hope both ways will be successful for you! I’ll be transplanting my short-day onions later this week hopefully. I will say, having automatic irrigation for direct seeded onions would have made my life much easier. We had what became a little drought with high temps right after they germinated.

Onions look healthy with good germ and not too many gaps. Need to be thinned still. I decided to use some row cover to encourage more growth since they’re looking a little small at the onset of cold weather. Will remove once they have 4-5 leaves. Hybrids outgrowing OP variety so far.

Very tasty, and you can eat more than just the blanched part. But seed from Row 7 is expensive and not often available, so all the more reason to grow as a perennial.

Yay! If you have Bayou Belle available, it’s supposed to be one of the fastest varieties at 95 dtm.

I’ve been wondering if turning down an art director job offer to pursue my passion was the best idea, but at least I have no reservations about the ethicality of my labor!

I’d like to do that as much as possible, for the same reasons! Will definitely do some trials next spring.

This photo shows why most of the crop didn’t so well. I thought all radishes were non-hosts to nematodes, but this one is apparently very susceptible. A real shame because this might be my favorite radish. Not sure i have time for another breeding project either 😂

This door similarly irks me.

The red pepper I selected is resistant to many diseases. The yellow pepper is possibly the tastiest pepper I’ve ever eaten. The end result in a few years will hopefully be red and yellow varieties that are productive, delicious, and resilient.

Yes, a couple weeks in plastic bags in the warmest room, or in a sunny window/porch. Seems to work pretty well!
