Seeing the movie last night made me feel old, and it made me feel young. And it filled me with deep sadness and howling anger. And holy shit it is a very funny movie. But perhaps most of all I felt the irony of how I thought I understood art when I was just a kid. Kids are dumb. Getting old is cool.

It’s not a movie that demands frequent revisiting, but I saw it last night at the revival theater. I’m 20 years older, more in tune with life’s adult challenges, disappointments, injustices. I am capable of being more measured in my emotional expression, while also being angrier than ever.

We were supposed to be meeting friends and going to a party, but we dropped everything and watched the whole movie. Then we went to the party, buzzing from seeing something fresh and lurid and angry and dangerous. I never saw the weed dealing stranger again.
