Global average temperatures are spiking, rising faster than climate models seem able to explain, and in a sane world, every country would be united in a full-scale effort to figure this out & respond. Instead the US is dismantling its scientific infrastructure.

So happy to hear that Brad Marcelino has been named head coach/manager for Great Britain Baseball’s National Team. I roomed with him at his very first Euros back in 1999 and I knew even then that he was all business. The program is in great hands. Congrats Brad and GB Baseball!

My favorite line from “The Glory of Their Times” comes from Boston Red Sox Hall of Famer Harry Hooper about Babe Ruth. He said that when Ruth started in the Majors, he was “only lightly brushed by the social veneer we call civilization.” Do any ballplayers talk like that anymore?
