Could be fungal! Rhodotorula is a fairly common red pigmented environmental yeast...which unfortunately I only really found out about because of long forgotten yoghurt at the back of the fridge.

Still a great picture! I just found this very photogenic Amanita, but unfortunately the slugs found it first...
