I was not able to read the NYT article b/c of paywall but Ivy Coach has similar thoughts. If they message this to their super wealthy client base it's likely worse for those further down the income ladder.

Garrett, The Devil Reached Toward the Sky is an outstanding work, I can't recommend it enough.
At times it invoked a sadness outside of the tragedy of war, a sadness that stems from reading about an America that seems like a foreign country compared to today. This video sparks similar feelings.

Doesn't detainment require reasonable suspicion? Certainly looks like the suspicion was "wrong skin tone".

He is a really bad guy that would sell his mother for a teenie with no intention of ever buying her back for a cab but he is not an idiot.

Chris, any word on Finney-Smith return?

It worked so well for Roy Moore, why not give it another go....

Really enjoyed this Nicole.

As an aside, I know that Daniel Diermeier is familiar with your work but as a Vanderbilt alum I really wish he would have it front of mind instead of playing footsies with the very authoritarians you cover here!

"no, no, you see he was not in the SS, he was in the SA. The SS committed the crimes and then passed the victims to the SA. It was the SS not the SA that committed all the crimes..."

Excuse the ignorance, PRI?

Ryan, I heard what you did with 6/7 on this episode. Lol.

He turned the White House into the Gran Prospect Hall, where our dreams are most certainly not going to come true.

I will venture that the table stakes for the '28 primary are calling what Israel did in Gaza genocide and ending military sales if the government is lead by the right.

Not sure what the path for Shapiro is in that environment.

"Second-degree murder could bring Grayson a sentence of four to 20 years with day-for-day good time, meaning his sentence could be halved if he behaves behind bars. He could also be sentenced to probation and avoid prison time entirely."

Man....

I am not a scientist nor an attorney but it sure seems that "highly suggestive" as a stand alone statement is enough to get sued into oblivion.

Jan 20th 2029 12:00:01 PM the wrecking ball starts the journey to 1600 Penn. Ave and if he refuses to leave the U.S. marshal service will make him watch the demo in handcuffs.

Lauren, are there laws that govern private donations to the government and their use? If yes, can congress sue to stop construction if the donations fail to meet the letter of the law since congress didn't appropriate finds for the destruction of the east wing?

I have no insight into the legal requirements and the governors ability to remove board members but if it’s remotely possible I would think its just the opening move.

As a Vanderbilt alum I have had the misfortune of watching a lot of Tony's antics. Time will tell if this works out but Boone has a new competitor for most ejections during a MLB season.

MLB managers can only have so much impact either way but I share your Pitino vibes.

As a Vandy alumn and massive TC fan, I am disappointed to see Tony go. I think Tim has adjusted to the portal and is ironing out the offense side of recruiting. There was nothing better in college baseball than Vandy/Tenn when both teams were on it. Kicking their ass w/o Tony is not nearly as fun.

Not surprising, funding realities are real but Vanderbilt is far from alone. I would love to know what he thinks MIT and Princeton got wrong by placing their core mission 1st. Schools don't exist to serve the endowment and letting $ drive short term decisions over core principals is a road to ruin.
October 21, 2025 at 10:53 PM
I feel the same way Don. I received a world class education from Vanderbilt but the current admin has proven that it is ill suited to lead the university. Equating extortion with honest dialogue is simply vile and the antithesis of institutional neutrality.

The one sports wish I have for this year is for George to repeat his 2017 WS performance and then watch the Dodger fan base spontaneously combust.

Same Sarah, it's shameful. I don't have an understanding of who is really driving the turn to Vichy U. Not sure if Diermeier is a solo driver of this or if he getting support from a handful of wealthy donors but he is well on his way to soiling Vanderbilt's reputation.
October 21, 2025 at 2:45 PM
Diermeier has given extortion equal footing with honest debate and for that he should forever be remembered as Vanderbilt’ greatest mistake since the civil rights era.

Truly shameful, the man has no place in higher education.
