This is the longest I’ve ever been able to sustain a habit that requires daily commitment. I credit that to the flexibility of the goal - there’s so many ways to meet it, from running, to gym sessions - or when I’m not allowed to exercise (e.g. after having polyps removed), long walks.

Then, it also spurred me to join CrossFit, which I’ve been loving! Have learnt a lot from our fabulous coaches, and it’s great to be part of a community. Has also helped me realize how much more unrealized potential I have!

Whenever we’ve had video shoots with hotel stays outside of Tokyo, I’ve made a point of making the most of my usual early-morning starts (5:30am) and exploring the local area with a run, which helps me connect with the area and generally enriches the whole experience.

But more than the above, it’s the experiences it’s brought me. For example, thanks to this commitment, yesterday I had the most glorious 15km run along the coast of Ishigaki, and ended that with a lovely time watching the sunset from the beach with Satoko.

It’s also influenced my thinking towards food and drink. “If I’m making all this effort with exercise, I may as well get the food thing right too!” Using Gyroscope app to track it all, I increased my protein intake and generally made more conscious, healthy food choices. I also quit alcohol.

Of course there’s been the physical benefits, from setting multiple PBs in my running, to finally feeling comfortable with my body for the first time since I was a kid. That’s helped dispel the frustration I always felt with myself, and reduced stress levels.

AI has also had a profound impact on our business (as a creative agency) this past year. No doubt we’ll see even more drastic changes to how we work in 2025.
