Scientist and author of the dystopian undersea saga, NOVUM CHRONICLES, the AI thriller, CYBERDROME, and the new book+screenplay, ROGUE WAVE. JosephRhea.com
In 2012, before "going viral" was a thing, I dropped my debut novel "Cyberdrome" from $7.99 to $0.99 on a dare, and immediately began selling over 200 copies per hour. The six books I've written since then are much better, but I've never seen sales like that since. It's all about the algorithms...

It's weird seeing someone else talking about underwater sci-fi. I wrote an entire series in this should-be-best-selling-but-I-don't-advertise-made-up subgenre. 🤪

It's called Novum and I'd love to see more in this area (I'm an oceanographer so I wrote what I know). 👍

I remember finding a glaring typo in "The Writing Life" by Annie Dillard, which is one of my favorite authors and books, and thought, if a writer of her caliber (and her professional editors) can miss one, then we have to assume that no manuscript is 100% error-free.

You know, I think most people could read overheard and overhead and just not see the difference, especially at the speed many of us read. Sometimes it takes listening into an audio version to locate those little typos, which is what I've done for years as a final check before sending to editors.

Oh I really like Architect and Gardener. I will start using those from now on. 👍

Actually you just described exactly how I write. I write scene-based stories. Sort of like a screenplay so I know who's in the room, what has to be the outcome, but the actual conversation and interactions are all spontaneous.
