A dear facebook friend. Nov 9, 2024 Today I got a dozen eggs for 2.99, a pound of ground angus beef for 4.99, and the butter I got was 3.69 for 4 sticks. All Kroger Brand. Gas today at Love's on Edwin C Moses was 2.57 a gallon. Facebook will show this post to me next year and we can compare those prices. Given that inflation is 2.4% (easily googled for anyone claiming it isn't), those eggs next year shouldn't be higher than 3.09, that beef more than 5.11, and that butter 3.79. The front cover of the hard cover version of my debut offering. Please, it is available at lower prices in local stores and on the Amazon. I searched for reviews. This came up. The picture is a screenshot from ebay - a seller selling my debut for, get this, $81.81 US Dollar. Some of the reviews said the author was a good world builder. Technically though, I'm more of a whirled builder. What I can't build is a bird house, a lamp or a closed circuit.

Boxed brownies were on sale, so, adding 3 T of cacao made these great! The Hot, hot water, powdered sugar and cacao icing was made to make them even chocolate-ier.

Soft Molasses Cookies with Butterscotch and Milk Chocolate Chips, extra Ginger, Cinnamon and Molasses with Cacao added.
25 cookies shown. One cookie sheet and one pizza pan and two plates of cookies. The pans have cookies that were just loosened and cooling, the plates have cookies that are continuing the cooling process (one pan is in the oven.) These actual look is unlike shortening-style molasses cookies with smooth flat tops, these look like chocolate chip cookies made with chocolate added to the cookie dough - but it is unmistakably butterscotch chips and chocolate chips in a molasses cookie. Extra Ginger is in the smell but not the taste. The Cacao mellows the Ginger and the Cinnamon. The after taste is butterscotch, chocolate and traditional mellow molasses cookies. They are so good I just penned the recipe and stuck that recipe in my favorite baking cookbook. Next time, 4oz butterscotch chips and 6 oz chocolate chips to perfect the flavor profile. Still, superb! The plan, based on the last batch, with no chips, was to ice them with a mild ginger snd powdered sugar icing made with hot water to set the icing for stacking. This cookie needs no sugary icing though. What is in the picture are rich, delicious and soft cookies!

I'm standing just outside my car, looking North, at the pretty Great Miami River and it's functional bridge. The sky was clear and beautiful green deciduous trees line the river. it's fall, so the autumn colors, past peak on this day, still linger amongst the foliage. The bridge's "roadway" is not paved, but is diagonally placed timber that sit atop diagonally placed timber running the other diagonal direction, like an X from above. The boards shift as the car tires cross the river. Now, I'm in the car, looking out the driver's window, at the covered bridge. Not much of the river is in the image due to road, guard rails snd the covered bridge, but the river is lined with deciduous trees to the South, too. Now, I happened to pick a spot that allowed me to see through the covered bridge, as the bridge's design has windows across from each other. The next image shows that in zoom. The covered bridge has caution signs, cameras are recording. This zoomed in and cropped bit is two of the covered bridge's windows that are on the structure's North and South walls. The bridge has four sets of windows, but this is the window from the first image, but from the newer bridge. Not sure anybody here pays attention to Alt. Text anymore, but I love the extra space to share with those struggling with their vision. Mom struggled mightily with her vision, so it matters to me to open the art up to others. These three images were captured this week, Wednesday evening, about 6 pm.

I had leftover sprinkles. As much as I love sprinkles, they lasted one week!

I bought them for cookies I made last week.

This cake tastes chocolate-ee! Scratch cake recipe with an icing and chocolate? No chocolate was spared.
The Hershey's Cocoa book had this recipe. While the recipe call for no egg, I added one. Though 1/3 Cup of Cocoa was the quantity suggested, the measuring cup measured 1/2 a Cup. Having no butter or shortening handy, I boiled some water and added it to a mixture of powdered sugar, cocoa and natural vanilla for the icing. I discovered that icing decades ago baking, using it for donuts. I posted the cookies a week back and still had a fifth or so, of the container, so, sprinkles only half-cover, with the amazing icing peeking through the sprinkled layer. This simple cake turns out more dense than does a box cake or a full scratch cake recipe, but only slightly more dense. It is chocolate-ee!

These cookies are so good! Extra Cacao and extra chips! The chips used today are milk chocolate, for a change. Almost no icing and then dipped into a bowl of sprinkle chaos. I actually sat for thirty minutes trying to separate the colors. That was a dead end. I did use those by taste testing them, yum! In my mind, I had carved pumpkin faces with triangle nose, Cheshire cat smiling eyes and a zig-zag mouth. I had one cookie ready, dipped it and umm, it was chaos and effectively just covered the cookie with sprinkles. So, I just went with that, honestly, rolling my eyes the entire time I pulled each cookie out of the bowl. They are super yum!

Drove up to Wapakoneta today, swung through Sidney for the scenic view. This is Ohio!
The Space Museum in Wapak is cool! No need to get out of the car to see a sweet old jet! This is red and white and I don't know much about it. It's not a huge vessel. It looks fast! Al lunar landing module and another capsule sort of gizmo here, You can touch it, but while I was there, I didn't get out of the car. As I was leaving the lot, I saw this and took a picture. Another aircraft sits out front of the museum. The museum has a dome, that when I was a child in the early 1970s was open to schools as a planetarium. I wanted to hit the far Eastern edge of Piqua, and rt. 25-A, an old road that was the main highway to Florida from Piqua and Sidney, Ohio. Interstate 75 has rendered this once heavily traveled highway cut up a bit. The old road had sharp turns and cities ran the old road in a path that opened up as much of the city to the traffic as possible, meaning many turns through many neighborhoods. 25-A is Piqua's Main Street. In Sidney, 25-A was an artery that trains were routed over top of, as in this video screen shot. You're surrounded by houses and trees, heading South, and as you exit town, you see this huge railroad structure almost Aqueduct like structure maybe 40 ft, over ten meters tall and spanning a great valley. A relative passed working on this structure. They are buried with their cart in the concrete, my Uncle told me. There is a commemorative plaque bearing his name and perhaps the name of his beast of burden. Nothing like this in Piqua. It seems Roman.

Soup! Pintos, Corn, Green Beans, Tomato Paste and Diced Tomatoes, topped with cornbread!

It is delicious! Thanks to Adorable Spite for reminding me I have Jiffy mix in the cupboard!
Starting with soaking pintos at 9am, I added corn and green beans, then diced tomatoes and tomato paste. I simmered it until noon. It was thick, then, and Adorable Spite reminded me of ham and beans with cornbread. I had a couple Jiffy cornbread mix boxes in the cupboard, so I mixed one box up and poured it atop and baked it 25 minutes. It is so good! The image includes a small section cut out and sitting in a bowl next to the pot.

I am very picky with dry beans. They're either perfect, or they don't make the grade. After a brief rinse, they're soaking overnight in the fridge. Mañana is Pintos and veggies soup!
Up top is the failing beans, all are either shriveled and creepy or they are split. I used to find gravel in the bag, but I only checked about twelve ounces tonight. Two pounds is a crazy big production, under a pound is manageable and will go with diced tomatoes, green beans and corn in a good mix. I have beef stock, the unsalted boxed stuff, the tomatoes are canned and the corn and green beans are frozen. ( I pick carefully through the canned tomatoes to remove that top core bit, and pick carefully through the corn and beans for only the perfect veggies, too.) I'm not sure what this will be exactly, but it will be delicious as I taste and salt carefully for the low sodium diet. (Garlic powder and black pepper will be the other seasons to taste options.) Yummmm!

I made Brownies!
Extra Cacao, a layer of Reese's peanut butter chips and then made an icing from scratch! I left them for tomorrow, but tasted the icing, so delicious!

An 8"x8" pan of box Brownies! I always add cacao to any box chocolate cake or brownies. This time, 3 tablespoons of cacao, and then, before baking, I sprinkled half of a bag of Reese's chip on top. After the brownies cooled, I iced them - by pouring the icing over the brownies. I wanted an icing that would set, so I added boiling hot water to a bowl with powdered sugar, cacao and a dash of pure vanilla. I do love baking!

Molasses cookies

I bumped up the molasses, ginger and cinnamon, just a little bit, and dusted them with powdered sugar.

A cookie saver housing 33 molasses cookies. The cookies are a dark, dark molasses and dark brown sugar. Cinnamon adds its color, too. As they cooled, I dusted them with powdered sugar. The flavors are understated compared to the pop of chocolate chip cookies. I was this close (smushes fingers together tight) to buying butterscotch chips, they work in molasses but I'm not a big enough fan to have sprung the extra $3.49. They smell amazing! The ratio cinnamon to ginger was one teaspoon ginger, half a teaspoon cinnamon. Those spices, I used dry powders, are as big as the molasses. They are soft and without being sugary, they are a smooth understated blend.

Original art by Joseph Gillis no A.I. no magician wand "fix" filter. most every other filter used. The "noise" filter and that old fashioned dark corners filter didn't really speak to me. There seems to be a death star recess that is produced by not holding still for just one second, please, joe, okay, now, hit the shutter thingy without aftershocks. I digress. Except the moon, this picture is almost black, a more blue black, suggesting the cold of space. The moon here, a glowing red orange yellow, it looks hot, which it most certainly is not. Well, I don't know the temperature of the moon at moon noon. This moon though, no matter how it might sound, a burnin' sun with a blue black background. Original art by Joseph Gillis no A.I. no magic a bluh bluh! blah. Here, this picture is almost grey and gray. Ducking the saturation and tweaking the exposure filters was key here. Trying to make that moon look like the death star, with what look like the recess surrounding the death star's planet destroyer. It is maybe the Sea of Tranquility but my camera can only capture as good as can I with me at the controls. The sky is bright here so I filtered the other one to blackety the sky.

Flowers for Mom and the house smells magical with ravioli in a sauce almost as delicious as Mom's sauce. (I tried)

One red rose, a pink carnation and a light blue carnation with a bit of green fern for color all set in plastic wrap for the head stone. I miss her something awful. Pretty flowers from Genelle's for Mom. The footer is not matching those of her brothers as purchased but the monument company has either moved or has discontinued their services, so I may have to tidy up details but the amazing crew at our Forest Hill cemetery are looking into the records to direct my next focus. Nicest bunch of people ever! And the house smells amazing as the ravioli is on hold at 170 degrees Fahrenheit until later. It is frozen ravioli and canned paste. I'm not 100% confident in the oven temp at the safety zone, so I err on the hotter side of caution. Mom used Contadina brand paste and it takes a few hours to cook down. This is a meat sauce with ground round. It is simple, brown and season (salt, pepper garlic) the meat, (I don't drain it yet) add the paste, mix it around some and add water to a runny consistency, I used a 12 oz can of paste and six cups water. Then cook it down at a high-medium heat until almost as thick as you like it. (The ravioli will tighten it up some.) Add frozen ravioli, I use a three or four cheese, simmer for a half hour. Put a lid on it and bake for 90 minutes at 325 degrees F. I do taste along the way to get the salt, black pepper and garlic powder to that perfect place. After it has baked, you may see a darker red oil, that is the fat from the meat. Using a spoon, scoop out that fat as best you can. I choose this process because Mom did, it allows the non-fat parts of the browned meat to be part of the dish. You lose some of that if you drain before adding the paste.

Soup!! After carefully omitting a few ugly pintos and split bits from a bag of dried pintos, I soaked them overnight in the fridge, per most recipes. Then tossed the ingredients all together and a low sodium but delicious soup has been rendered. Not terribly low sodium, I used one can of Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup as a base. I'll sprinkle dry cheese, (Romano/Parmesan mix cheese) on top.

Jim Fowler was an animal expert before Jack Hanna, Steve and Bindi Irwin.

Airing from mid-1960s and on, they'd show a lion, a gator, a bear, or a hyena, and Jim Fowler wrangled the critter for US Tv audiences.

Jim Fowler, a guest on the Johnny Carson late night program, with a large mountain lion! Johnny looks uncomfortable, as he was, often, when his guest was the Wild Kingdom animal lover. He really did love critters, he's hugging this big cat! Through the years, he brought viewers lions, tigers, bears, gators, crocs, and dozens of other interesting species to a curious public. I recall Mom and Dad watched with every one of us kids. Young friends visited, we knew Wild Kingdom was starting, it captivated us kids. The parental units always felt for Jim, whatever the camera found, Jim was tasked with presenting the critter. "I'd hate that job." They'd say, as they watched, as captivated as us kids. Before even Jim, was Jacques Cousteau, another Tv host that visited Johnny Carson, was doing similar work in the waters of the planet. Every year or more often, Mr. Cousteau had a Tv program for audiences. From Cousteau, to Bindi, a tradition of monitoring, presenting, and helping to preserve has constantly evolved with a love and respect of our fellow Earth Dwellers.

The recipe is from a Hershey's cookbook and I substituted the recipe Toll House semi-sweet with Ghirardelli dark chocolate chips. They are delicious!

The picture shows a half batch of "Perfectly Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies." according to the Hershey's Easy Baking Hershey's Cocoa cookbook. I used Ghirardelli dark chocolate chips - they run 60% where Tool house semi-sweet runs around 54% cocoa. Then, I used Cacao, per recipe, which does give the cookies a powerful chocolate taste. I counted 27 here, I tested one I accidentally beat up a bit with the spatula trying to loosen the cookies after a minute out the oven. They are winners!

Two creatures facing off or?

All radiant sky here, from a maizy yellow to auto car paint tan and up, to sky blue and up to a full hue pastel greyish blue. Except some very dark rooftops across the lowest tenth of the composition, and clouds - is it a buckethead t-rex - and a leaping dachshund, I'm thinking. Clouds striking animal poses are always a stretch. The night feels, if you're picking up anything in the August breeze, more like a bunny rabbit hoping past a old man holding a "Resist" sign. Either way, the clouds are not without an endearing flare.
