So I guess Ruocchio just wanted Hadrian to suffer after the cool shit he did in Demon in White huh? Brilliantly written, the relationship between Hadrian and Syriani Dorayaica was fascinating. How the series moves forwards after what’s happened here is gonna be interesting.

A really enjoyable spin off sequel, even if the plot is just a revenge story. Abercrombie remains one of the best character writers I’ve seen, the mix of old and new blend very well here. Cosca in particular is just hilarious.

Holy shit this was good. The pacing at the start is so much better than the previous two. Lorian really grew on me here and the emperor and his family getting more detail was appreciated. Alexander and Selene will be interesting going forward. Really good Hadrian moments too.

Mostly satisfied with the character endings here, even though they are bleak, very much expected from this world though. Glokta is the standout again with his plotting, as well as Bayaz becoming much more interesting. Will definitely be reading more Abercrombie.

Builds on the characters from the first very well whilst also giving the plot much more importance. Logen is my standout character with his attempts to unify the group. Very good subversive moments and great cliffhangers for book 3 to build on.

Gave this a re-listen before jumping into the rest of the series and I still like it. The characters standout, particularly Jezal and Glokta. The world building does a good job of absorbing you into a bleak and corrupt world. Steven Pacey’s narration is also wonderful.

Kinda cheating cause I just read from the end of the anime to the end, but it’s so good I have to put it in here. Quickly has become one of my favs, and I’m so excited to see how the rest of it is adapted. Think it needs some extra chapters to flesh it out more, but it’s still great.

I don’t understand how people have coped with the 13+ year wait for these cliffhangers to be addressed. Jon is the standout, but like Tyrion and Barristan too. The Aegon plot is great and Dorne continues to be fascinating. Time to join the wait for Winds now I guess.

A fun little detective mystery book that wraps up nicely. Din and Ana were the obvious standouts, really good chemistry between them. Kinda wish the Leviathans played a bit more into the story. (Also the romance seems like it came out of nowhere, maybe I’m just dense though 😭).

Really brave to not have all the main characters but Sansa, Brienne, Arya and Jaime and Cersei in particular really stand out. Dorne and the Iron Islands plot were very intriguing, imagine if the show had actually adapted them! (And Stoneheart, and not screwed Sansa over!)

My favourite ASOIAF book so far. Does have the same problem I had with the first two; I’ve seen the show so I know what happens. Hoping as GoT diverged from the next two, I’ll be more surprised. Despite that, still great, loads of memorable events, & loved Jon’s story.

Whilst it doesn’t have the highs from the fights that Wano had, the lore developments and world building that happened made up for it. Kuma’s backstory was great and Bonney was a fun addition. Also gave me hope that Vivi will get another big arc with the straw hats.

Maybe my favourite One Piece saga? Certainly up there. Feels like everything post time-skip has been building up for this, and it pays off so well. It’s got some of the best flashback chapters and seeing all the different crews fighting together was fantastic.

Really insightful and fascinating. The behind the scenes stories at Liverpool along with more general football data topics, it’s all really good for anyone who enjoys football, data and how they crossover.

A really good sequel. Think this benefitted a lot from having a core group of characters that the story focussed on alongside Hadrian, rather than it changing constantly as it did in the first book. It’s also set up some really interesting mysteries for the series going forward.

Sun Eater is one of the series I’ve been wanting to start for a while, so I’m finally getting around to it. From what I’ve seen, this is the weakest book in the series, and if that’s the case, then I cannot wait to see how good these get, because this was still very solid.
