Depends on the purpose of grades. If it is to separate the wheat from the chaff, then this trend is bad. If it is to assess knowledge and skills, then the trend could reflect innovations that improve student learning, and evaluations that better measure that learning.

Isn't this the same as saying that the optimal trypsin concentration is 10 ng/µL, irrespective of the amount of protein?

I often evaluate how I spend my time and emotional energy, and how it matches my values. I care about the scientific goals, the people (trainees, students, colleagues, and friends), and the joy of discovery and benchwork. All the rest is just to make sure that I can keep doing the parts that matter.
