Some professional news: after 8 years in Texas, I’m heading back east. Starting in July, I’ll be an Assistant Professor in the Department of Government at Smith College! I’m going to miss my community here in Houston, but I’m very excited for this new adventure!
New faculty headshots just dropped!

Happen to see that the openly gay leader of the D66 party is likely to lead the new government in the Netherlands? Curious how citizens evaluate lesbian and gay party leaders? My latest co-authored article exploring this question is now online (and open access)!

🔥 When fancy faculty @zeynsom.bsky.social coauthor with fancy alum @josephfcozza.bsky.social in fancy journals. Congrats.
Lesbian and gay party leaders receive lower leadership evaluations than straight leaders in the UK, and the effects are consistent across genders. Interesting yet discouraging findings in our BJPS paper. @josephfcozza.bsky.social @gdilandro.bsky.social Andrea Aldrich @utgovernment.bsky.social

As a scholar, teacher, mentor, and community leader, Bob was always incredibly smart, funny, and, most importantly, kind. He was one of my biggest champions from the moment I arrived at Rice. A huge loss for the discipline and the Rice community 💔

Rice's Program in Politics, Law, and Social Thought was honored to host Gary Jacobsohn (UT-Austin) and Cristina Lafont (Norhtwestern) last month for a fascinating dialogue on judicial review and democratic legitimacy. The full event recording is now available! www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYip...

It's extremely rare for a replacement constitution to fail in a referendum. Just 13 times in 200 years! Chile now accounts for two of these in just the last two years www.nytimes.com/2023/12/17/w...
