The UK is also really well placed to do SMRs. We are one of six nations with nuclear powered submarines and are currently developing a new round of nuclear powered SSBNs. Developing exportable, essential tech is a great way to reboot our global profile.

The second report goes into the business case for SMRs in some detail. Treating SMRs like a product to be produced at scale allows you to overcome many of the normal barriers to nuclear adoption.

The event was a good reminder than male only panels are a thing of the past. The talent is out there and it’s great to see an event about space and firefighting attracting a more diverse crowd. (Sorry I couldn’t get a better shot!)
