Good Guy Joe
@josephanastasio.bsky.social
Writer, Photographer, Designer & UX instructor. Not to be confused with the mostly retired Bad Guy Joe.
The main character in my novel literally does this exact thing to the same exact statue. (I wrote it a few months after he did it, but had no knowledge of him doing it).

According to The Post I'm supposed to be offended by this but, uh, no. Fuck Columbus. Tear that statue down.

I love a good micro-climate. Here's a thick fog bank at 6AM along the Hudson River, with two guys going fishing and a northbound CSX train blasting out of the clouds. Behind me it was a nice normal clear morning. None of us were supposed to be there, and yet, we were exactly where we needed to be.

Pride month made me realize I needed to add a few lines to my manuscript (set in 1991 NYC). The scene is a bad a** criminal lesbian coming out to the MC. It previously didn't touch on how many were in the closet back then. Felt like a super important detail to include.

Two kinds of urban explorers.

(Second version also applies to those that use bolt cutters)

Abandoned lower level platform at Times Square. This station was cut nearly in half by the 7 train extension to Hudson Yards a decade ago.

Glad I reissued this 15 year old niche classic. I’m including a note with copies sold directly from me that gives the book more context. It felt necessary given how wildly things have changed.

Flash photography is a vibe. Nothing quite says crime like a big honking flash before the getaway.

Delighted that so many people ordered my limited reprint of Subway Madness that includes this photo. It's a never to be repeated shot of an NYC R32 subway zipping by. Nearly all of these cars were replaced. Their ridge sided, anti-graffiti design made for great lines. ltvpress.com/product/subw...

Today I spent ten minutes filling in a query form, only for the website to reject it, saying the word count of the book is too high. This limit is literally not mentioned by the agent anywhere (I checked their socials, website, etc).

122k is extremely not unreasonable for a crime thriller.

2007. R and V trains in the Queens Blvd tunnel layup. The roll signs were always on, and the trains packed in tight, creating reflections at the end of each.

I said this right after the 2018 primary (when many still didn't even know who she was), and I'm saying that shit again. @aoc.bsky.social you got this.

I'm sure performative nonsense like renaming waterways is going to solve this complex problem. 🙄

This abandoned school in the upper great plains says everything you need to know about America in 2025:

Mow the lawn? Sure! Make it look good! America!
Fly the flag? F* YEAH!
Keep the school open, or maybe maintain it so the roof doesn't fall in? HELL NO! Education is for communists! Murica!!!
