I like cooking, taking pictures of food, looking at pictures of food, and eating food. I read science fiction. I am a web developer and IT leader but views reflected here are personal.
One of the potatoes I bought for tonight's dinner weighed a pound all by its lonesome, so I cut it in half and made twice baked potatoes. Broccoli, bacon, cheese, topped with leftover birria and a dollop of sour cream. 🍽️ 🍜

@cafenowhere.bsky.social and I went out last night to see the auroras and I captured this one second loop of them. Streaks of red are in the background and a ribbon of green dances in front. The auroras are framed by dark trees on the left and bottom of the video.

Thank you for prompting us to go outside. We drove to Kent Park in Tiffin, Iowa and saw the auroras with our own eyes. It was really impressive. Here is a quick 1-second video that shows some some detail.

Birria tacos for dinner served with black bean and sweet potato soup. Cilantro and onions for topping. A bit of the birria caldo (broth) for dipping. 🍽️ 🍜

Lisa made this delicious and pretty chocolate bourbon pecan pie today! Sorry, folks, I don't think we have any extra to share ... There's two of us and only one pie, so...

For Halloween I tried to make a giant hand and learned some things along the way. First, get started early. Don't put it off because you don't know how to do it. Start, if you fail early, you have more time to work. Second, stop while ahead. I liked the paint job until I grabbed the chrome paint.

Sheet pan dinner tonight. Can someone tell me what the natural predators are for acorn squash? I could barely cut it open to make this dish of squash, brussel sprouts, and sausage. 🍽️ 🍜

I know the weather has turned colder, but there is still time for dinner salads like this one. Blackened steak over spinach and arugula. Cucumbers, tomatoes, and blue cheese dressing. Some fried shallots and crispy jalapenos for garnish. 🍽️ 🍜 🥗

It was a thin crust. It didn't take long to cool enough to eat or to be eaten.

The hardest part of making a pizza is waiting for it to cool before eating it. 🍽️ 🍕 🍜

Tonight we had the beef stew I made last night. Mixed baby potatoes, beef, carrots, onion, garlic, wine, beef broth, and spices. Strayed just a bit from the recipe, especially since I was using about half the beef the recipe calls for. 🍽️ 🍜

We picked up some Peri Peri seasoning and today I used it for the first time to make this dish: Peri Peri chicken thighs over basmati rice. Garnished with cilantro, fried jalapenos, and chili lime dried cranberries. A slice of lemon on the side. This was tasty. 🍽️ 🍜

I made this blackened salmon with shrimp. Over sliced baby potatoes and a side of broccoli. All of this was cooked in the same pan in different stages. Potatoes first, then out of the pan, then broccoli, and out it comes. Salmon and shrimp. Shrimp came out first. Garlic butter sauce then combine 🍽️ 🍜

I cooked this beef stew a couple of nights ago because I knew I wouldn't have the time to do it tonight. It is a Moroccan beef stew with dates served with an instant couscous. Rosemary and sea salt crackers to help push things around. So tasty. 🍽️ 🍜

Soup! Mini wonton soup to be exact. This comes together quickly and uses some premade ingredients, but doesn't compromise on flavor. 🍽️ 🍜

So, if you zoom into this image and look along the railroad tracks, you will see what I originally thought was just one main library groundhog. I'm thinking of naming the three of them Sarah, Cosima, and on the far left, Helena. #OrphanBlack

Dinner tonight was low effort: a bagel with cream cheese, arugula, avocado, quick pickled red onions, capers and smoked salmon. It was probably overpowering the salmon but still tasty. 🍜 🍽️

Ok, folks. Time to confess. Would you be happy if a taco truck came by your street like an ice cream truck? What if you could flag it down and have it cook you a batch of these? Instead of sprinkles you get your choice of salsas. I know I'd keep some cash on hand for that.

Dinner tonight is a Mediterranean inspired salad and a side of fish and chips. Yes, the salad is the main here.

Yesterday, I had a meeting after lunch and I was anxious about it. The why isn't important. As I came to the stairs I use to enter my building these petunias?, maybe, were growing in the crack between the stairs and the sidewalk. I decided to take it as a positive sign and the meet went well

Every once in a while we try something new. This is not an ad. Kingsford has a mega pack combo of pulled pork, center cut ribs, and burnt ends. (All pork) Goes in the oven. It was pretty good with some cornbread, biscuits, and beans. I served too much. 🍽️ 🍜

Not a picture of my dinner, but this little critter kept me company while I had my lunch outside. Walked right up to my shoe and ran away again about 4 times. Shall we name this critter?

I'm not in Texas, but I support the Texas democrats that are in Illinois right now. I hope they get a nice dinner like this spaghetti and meat sauce I made. Topped with basil and shaved parmesan. 🍽️ 🍜 I added some red pepper flakes to the sauce to add some spice. There is a serving left in the pot

Just thought I'd mention that tonight for dinner we had corn on the cob with a side of bbq chicken. The corn has butter and tajin. The chicken has Carolina gold bbq sauce. It was a good dinner. 🍽️ 🍜
