Energy stuff in 🇮🇶 , currently watching in real time how US financial sanctions can wipeout $20bn of assets in 3 weeks

Despicable framing of a genocide and objections to the murder of civilians in Gaza.

Timothy Snyder was correct with his first guess regarding what this mass gathering might be about.

Hegseth’s apparent confidence, despite complete lack of competence, astounds me

I was admiring the style and texture of this expensive (branded) jacket at an outlet store, but with 70% discount.

Then I noticed the stitching right of the pocket and vaguely recalled something you may have said: that this is a sign of cost cutting. Am I right?

2 of the most important, harrowing and instructive books I’ve read recently.
@timothysnyder.bsky.social‘s On Tyranny is short enough to be serialised in a daily newspaper.
Let’s stop thinking progressive liberal democracies are somehow the natural order, inevitable. They need to be defended.

I’m a fan of the US; it’s can-do attitude, its innovations, its openness, its institutions, the talent it has produced, and much else besides, but I’m genuinely concerned about how much of what made it great will be recognisable in 3 years.

There’s something deeply disturbing about an Israeli government that pays to have ads on YouTube to tell the world things in Gaza aren’t that bad.

Bibi, nearly 30 years ago. He looks about the same age now as he did then. Seems he’s been in his 70s since 1996.

I used to subscribe to Stratfor for geopolitical updates. Good, but quite pricey & from event to analysis often took a bit of time
Currently enjoying Lawrence’s insights; informative, frequent, sober, & a rolling narrative

Trump should be approached first & foremost through these opening few lines:

Add this and we should have peace by lunchtime

“War, war is stupid, and people are stupid” - Boy George.
Has me welling up every time.

Can we add this profound piece by Boy George as an attachment?

Thanks for your valuable input.

It’s just that posts aren’t always true to the actual story.

See if you can spot the difference. “Does not exclude” does not equal “ready to”

Yes, thanks, Dave ‘hater of ignorance’, I can read English.
Now I seem to have found the source, Putin’s position is more nuanced

“Does not exclude” does not equal “ready to hand over”, does it

If you get the chance, I recommend cage diving, ideally with a conservationist company like Marine Dynamics which is helping the endangered Cape Penguin.
Few Great Whites in SA now (due to orcas), but you’ll still get to see cool animals like seals, short-tailed stingrays, and the copper shark 🦈

Nice one. I got in via my Irish roots. My father’s from Northern Ireland, so according to the Irish gov I’ve been an Irish citizen all along - the gov just asserts that I’m Irish. I can live with that 🇬🇧 ->🇮🇪 ->🇪🇺 -> 😊

The animals are every bit as majestic in real life as they are on TV.
If you’re flirting with the idea of going, just get on that plane ✈️

What a place South Africa is. Long flight, but I’d recommend it to anyone for a holiday.

Shark cage diving tomorrow, so if I don’t post for a while maybe check the local news 😬 🙈

Hang on. Well I asked Microsoft Copilot and it told me… 🙈
I’m not sure if this reinforces his point, picks fault with, is ironic, or what day of the week it is now…
