German paleoartist, he/him, doing extinct critters of all sorts and some spec evo too
The size charts this time were a collaborative effort between @montanoceratops.bsky.social,

and me. As you can see there the local insect fauna had some bangers. When you want large insect interacting with dinosaurs/pterosaurs: this is your place!

typical Solnhofen fauna form a long corridor through southern Germany but localities in France show similar preservation. The Atlmühltal Formation has iconic taxa like Archaeopteryx and Pterodactylus and was therefore the first of these formations we covered.

and bennettitaleans are the most common plants. The beaches were probably blinding white, consisting of sand that formed from broken down corals and sponges, as these islands were often not much more than reefs peaking above the waves. Formations/localities that housed the...

Popular images of the Solnhofen islands show them as tropical paradises, often with cliffs and tall trees. The opposite appears to be the case. The islands were probably small, arid, flat and had vegetation that can be better described as shrubbery. Small conifers...

All of these creatures being preserved in marine sediments. For one it makes it possible to show all the cool pterosaurs and other stem birds from here. On the other hand, more importantly, it offers the possibility to show the environment many of these animals occupied.

And here the results from the Solnhofen #paleostream! This image depicts large parts of the terrestrial fauna of the Altmühltal Formation, the best understood part of the litographic limestone formations of Germany. There were several reasons for gong onto land despite...

It's been years since I touched anything this human that is more than just a sketch.
A night well spend I think.

...of little ice domes forming under these cold conditions. These more hilly, dryer areas were mostly inhabited by the "seed fern" Botrychiopsis while the wetter parts were full of horsetails of the genus Dichophyllites. Only trace fossils hint at the presence of insects.

But Seaham not only shows the presence of glaciers but also preserves the soil that formed in it's vicinity.
The paleosols recorded here are very similar to modern day tundra soils, with wetter and dryer types found throughout the formation. There is even evidence...

There is a number of different formations in New South Wales that preserve evidence of the Carboniferous glaciation The trails of these glaciers can be observed to this day in the local geology.

Seaham was deposited in the neighborhood of a glacier, with volcanoes near by. Such a visual is totally foreign to most people when they think about the Carboniferous, the time of the tropical coal swamps, and that's why this formation made it into our selection.

Here the result of the Seaham Formation #paleostream, maybe the most relaxing formation stream we will ever have! This Carboniferous tundra wasn't chosen because of it's fossils, but because of its setting.

For people who know the Wiki page of the Judith River Formation you will notice that Zuul is missing from here, that's because we chose the middle member. The lower Oldman Formation is basically the same around this time, so its in here too. Size chart by Montana

For one the Deinosuchus mother defending her nest and on the other the side the many ceratopsians from Judith. We can't show them all but you get the idea ;)
Also, because the fauna is similar to Dinosaur Park I wanted to go with quite a different mood.

And here we go, result from the Judith River Formation #paleostream! This late Cretaceous formation might be full of charismatic megafauna but it is currently understudied and a total mess when it comes to stratigraphy. In this scene I wanted to focus on two aspects...
