The surgical ethos needs to adapt to these "new players" in the operating theatre with difficult questions regarding responsibility (gaps), surgeons' role in technological innovation and changes in professional relationships ahead.

We argue that the question as to how we adress surgical robots in the ethical discourse will make a difference in the future.

With increasing autonomous capacities, these devices become more than just tools transmitting a surgeons' will. Time to take that into account.
