Supposed to be upvotes - downvotes, but Reddit makes the numbers "fuzzy" to combat bot manipulation. It means as much as likes on any other social media essentially, so some take it way too seriously.

Black people lean into the space between the familiar and the absurd when it comes to comedy, and they do so in such a way that laughter is meant to catch you off guard, surprising you mentally AND physically. THAT’s why we fall of chairs and take of running. It’s not performance, it’s reaction.

And don’t even get me started on white men because every white man I have ever met is dug in on the need to be perceived as funny. Maybe not the funniest, but they NEED you to think they’re a generally funny person, and I can’t imagine how much that has harmed Black people who can’t fake laugh.
