It was a true life treat to visit @bowdoin-college.bsky.social along with my academic hermano Jonathan Leal (USC). We were so fortunate to share our work & learn abt research by undergrad Alexandra Camargo.
Thanks to professors Boyle and Janmohamed who were instrumental in making our visit happen!

Academic chisme enthusiast? Yes, guilty as charged.
But, did I ever think I was going to be roasted as
"Dog Dad extraordinaire?" Well, nope, but here we are!

How It Started vs. How It's Going Introductions: This is Tres Villalibre, the most ungovernable corgi...at least when it comes to his grooming visits. Otherwise, he loves being petted and treats.

Hola Everyone, my (re)introduction.
I'm here for the academic chisme...I mean for: "the qualitative analysis of the micro-historical processes of social agents..."
Also, I study Mexican American history, particularly Los Ángeles transnational music cultures. More on this: rockarchivola.bsky.social

This essay was difficult to write as I did so while mourning, the unexpected death of my friend Saúl “Caifan” Herrera. He contributed materials to the @rockarchivola.bsky.social just before writing it. I dedicate it to Saúl and our resolve to continue mapping & sharing our histories. 2/3

In this piece, I discuss the teaching & research applications for Rock Archivo de LÁ materials. With their maps, flyers, and lyrics, ‘90s Latinx youth placed themselves in the L.A. geography. It’s now published in the Aztlán Journal Spring 24 issue! tiny.cc/AztlanRockAr... 1/3

I found this photo in my grad school files.
JAL, GTO, MICH, ZAC and MEX (Edo & CDMX) are the states of historic origin for millions of Mexican migrants. The map is nearly 20 years old. Yet it reminded me what I study and teach at its core: the long presence of Mexican communities in the US.

Faculty are on strike at ALL of the CSU campuses today. I'm in full solidarity with friends & colleagues as they join the picket lines. As a CSU graduate, former CSU lecturer, and #CFAonStrike member, I know it is long overdue the admin creates sustainable working & learning conditions!

My first read for the new year: Becky Nicolaides' new book. This is an extensively researched study on the Los Angeles suburbs. It will definitely advance and contradict our outdated perception of suburbs, which have always been quite diverse. Plus, I'm honored to be cited in the South Gate chapter!
