Feels like a good time to remember that when Gregory Swanson applied for admission into UVA Law School, the graduate committee accepted him.

It was the UVA Board of Visitors who overrode that decision and denied him admission, because he was Black.

Swanson took them to court, and won.

21/ UVA’s transit system is further curtailed and restricted to student needs, charging low-wage workers for mandatory buses and shuttles to satellite locations, forcing tens of thousands of workers into longer, costlier commutes or unemployment.

• Under the guise of “safety,” fear and policing take deeper root as UVA police expands its reach farther into Black neighborhoods. Kids face daily trauma and surveillance, while the unhoused, addicted, and marginalized are incarcerated.

Kindlewood residents are designing the new public park at the center of their neighborhood.

Today they hear presentations from Prof. Barbara Brown Wilson's students looking at examples from around the U.S. of how art can be used as culturally responsive design elements in public spaces.

Today a group of 50 first-graders from Trailblazer came to the JSAAHC to dive into the history of Vinegar Hill. We studied maps & pictures of families & their homes, learned about the many Black-owned cornerstone businesses, and heard stories from residents about life in the community.
