Again here the mirroring is clear on 1 and 2 but in 3 and 4 Gigi has landed in front of the Cardinal and is landing on the island.
A little aside to appreciate that lovely BUMP sound effect from Chris. He so naturally weaves SFX into his artwork.

Another thing I wanted to add to the opening (and it's something I use quite a lot in my writing) was mirroring between the panels.
Panels 1 to 2 the mirroring is clear, but also 3 to 4 both show Gigi approaching turning point moments in his life.
I am quite pleased with the captions here.

However, we did hear from some publishers that they were unsure what was happening, which was OK, as a certain amount of disorientation was intended. Comixology even said, "We're not totally sure what's going on but it's grabbed our attention."
I did, however, opt to add captions for more clarity.

This jumping around time and location along with my want to keep explanation and dialogue to a minimum meant I had to ask Chris to come up with a visual way to quickly alert the reader to the non-linear structure, which led Chris to opt to use the different colours as identifiers...

The initial image I had in mind that everything sprang for is that final 6th page, but we'll get there. Scripting the opening I decided I wanted to do something a little different and hopefully interesting, which was to move between multiple scenes from the present to several week ago...

Luckily @comixology.bsky.social were much more decisive and within 4 weeks of approaching them we had a contract signed.
The pitch we sent them was the cover and the opening 6 pages, as shown in the video above along with a story breakdown (but I'm certain it was picked up based on the pages)

Chris and I started work on this pitch between issues 3 and 4 of Mugshots along with another idea we liked with the intent to get another series picked up by a publisher for Chris to move straight to after Mugshots.
This didn't quite work out as several interested publishers dragged their feet...
