I'm Disappointed

Because we let this happen—
Now we'll starve, fight, and burn out,
Clinging to their empty promises,
Arguing about their broken ones,
Too scared to demand better,
And the ones who do are labeled snowflake, liar, or sensitive.

While politicians and billionaires line their pockets.

I'm scared.

Because they point blaming fingers at the brown and queer people.
As they're dragged away by "officers",
Loaded onto planes with no promise of where they’ll land.
Treated like freight,
Forced to be scapegoats to problems we made,
Problems we once promised to protect them from.

I'm Angry

Because they shout "Make America Great Again,"
While my friends and loved ones cry, their rights being slowly stripped away,
Their lives reduced to debate topics for a nation that won’t protect them.

I'm Broke and Hungry

Because politicians and billionaires line their pockets,
While their tariffs drive up the prices of food and goods.
While small businesses are replaced by empty space.
And I’m left to pay their inflated prices,
Buying what I can from the stores left standing.
