A stunning failure, unfortunately emblematic of the overall US H5N1 response:

In mid-January, 20 dairy workers in Michigan became "sick with flu-like symptoms,” and "[it] spread quickly among the workers.” They tried to access PPE/testing/treatments, but blocked by lack of staff/language barrier:
Farmworkers say they're struggling to get bird flu testing, PPE
The Michigan Immigrant Rights Center says some symptomatic farmworkers are running into delays and barriers when they reach out to health departments for PPE, avian flu tests, or even just seasonal fl...

Both recent H5N1 cases hospitalised (Ohio and Wyoming), possibly both D1.1 based on migration spread of D1.1 to chickens.

Why are there no new H5N1 cases since Christmas? Is it awareness on dairy farms, are cases hidden by seasonal flu, or is there still a holiday reporting lag ?? I am surpised.

There are almost no new human H5N1 in the US since christmas. Are they undetected because of the flu season ?

Does anyone have an overview of where H5N1 B3.13 is found and which migration routes pass through these areas ? And if this can predict when/if it will spread to other continents ?

The eye has a2,3 sialic acids, so there Is no pressure on H5N1 to acquire a2,6 specificity when the virus is not inhaled (exposure by contact with cows/milk) leading to ocular infection. The PB2 E627K HA E190D & Q226H in the Canada case occured with an avian strain (inhaled). Can that explain ....

Has anyone looked at T cell responses to BA.2.86 Spike after vaccination ? Might be relevant for those that have only been vaccinated. If such responses are low, this means risks for more severe disease may increase
