Looking at riparian understory using SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping). Points collected using a Faro Orbis scanner. 75M points drawn from the full 450M (cleaning still needed!). 150 m channel length; typical channel width is ~3m. Data collection by Sheldon Benito - more to come..

If I ever do write up a story on the stunning Quaternary terraces of the Waiau Uwha River and their intriguing tectonic deformations, I will offer due acknowledgements to my bored teenagers who put up with every road stop photo op on our tramping tour through Lewis Pass (North Canterbury, NZ).

Following our work on the post-earthquake sediment budget of the Hāpuku River (www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciadv.adi5560), our next focus is modelling sediment pulses moving from the range front to the coast. Delft3D-FM (+ParaView!) nicely captures the effect of confinement and floodplain storage.
