I could listen to Lumet talk about movies & his life all day; Observed Memorial Day by observing a Chaplin classic; Tim Blake Nelson's impressive directorial debut; and a farcical satire of capitalism that captures a bit of the zeitgeist of the late 1960s.

Short, bittersweet doc of Elliott Smith; Writing, directing, cinematography, acting, editing, etc., this movie may have done it better than any other in 2024; Frighteningly brilliant movie by Chloe Okuno and starring Maika Monroe; and solid mid-1970s Western.

Busy week, so I couldn't quite finish 4. However, the three I did watch were well worth it, especially Bjork's crazy good performance in Dancer in the Dark!

Touching short doc by Richard Fung on those living with deadly diseases; Bowie & Arquette are charming in irresistibly goofy & fun film; exploring rise of right-wing cult in the '80s that led to today's leader occupying the White House; hugely entertaining, thoughtful movie by exceptional filmmaker.

Heartbreaking how Jim Crow era prevented Bill Robinson from having more opportunities to share his beautifully poetic abilities with future generations; two leads go on to prove they could do truly "amazing" work; Tavernier brilliantly focuses on small, human interactions; odd little Linklater doc.

MAGA cult must be panicking if this is their best attempt at defending their leader. Seems to me that this describes their leader's biggest accomplishments: he's a fraud, a rapist and a pervert. Aren't these among his qualities that they're most attracted to? I'm confused.

Imperfect, but unique, original doc about a unique, original actor & his imperfections; fascinating look at life & career of an enormously talented unassuming musician; lovely Nancy Savoca film from 1991; and an always watchable Stanwyck pre-Code picture. Happy #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched
