I wrote a little thing about "Fairytale of New York" and about hope for a better year, but mostly I wanted to share the rendition of the song played at Shane MacGowan's funeral in 2023 because it's so beautiful. Happy Christmas, I love ya baby. dansinker.com/posts/2025-1...

I love this record and I love Tommy's songwriting.
Over at my Substack 'Please Take My Advice", I wrote about Tommy Stinson and Bash & Pop's deeply underrated Faces-and-Humble Pie-forward '92 classic 'Friday Night Is Killing Me'. LP. Plus: Some more of the best solo works after the Replacements' breakup. theparanoidstyle.substack.com/p/on-bash-an...

Today is the 70th anniversary of Rosa Parks' arrest. Six myths: 1) She wasn't old or tired. 42 years old that day, she had a "life history of being rebellious" & had spent two decades helping to turn the Montgomery NAACP into a more activist branch alongside ED Nixon and Johnnie Carr.

There are many songs about this city, but Tom Waits wrote one of the best, simply titled "Chicago." Out today, Mavis Staples' new album kicks off with her fantastic version of the song. I'm so glad to hear this quintessential Chicago singer putting her own stamp on it.
