I find it baffling that they went with “based on” rather than “inspired by”. The genre so predisposes the audience to understand that these are massive embellishments, essentially fantasy versions of these hauntings. Nobody’s out there thinking the nun is real, right?

The audience there thought it was hilarious

It was pretty recent. I was visiting family in West Virginia and went with my brother to see Civil War. The scene where Jesse Plemons yells “CHINA?” and shoots the international journalist got one of the biggest laughs I’ve ever heard in a theater. I think about it all the time.

Unless they’re in Gaza, right?
