Politics junky. Pragmatism over ideology.
Reasonably conservative (but barely recognize it these days).
Miss the Red Tories but I'm not entirely one.
Canadian. NOT Jonathan Torrens.

I assume none of these hypotheticals are things you are anticipating in the current situation 😂

I'm pretty sure nobody is against Hydrogen the element 😂
What a non serious person you are.

There are many solutions less "magical" than Hydrogen, and the fact that you're so fixated on it suggests you're in the industry of shilling for it.

Climate change is real.
Hydrogen can't stop failing.
It's proponents can't stop shilling.

I just can't find the diversity of everything here I get on Twitter/X.
Yet.
It's almost entirely the political left, mostly American, patting each other on the back and blocking anyone who dares challenge them.
Twitter is toxic, Bluesky is... boring.

It has to be much higher to be effective.
It's too low.
Ontario it's like 17 cents a litre extra on gasoline.
Is that enough to change behaviour?
Apparently not, given we're not embracing EVs any faster than Americans.

Incentive = reward for doing good.
Disincentive = punishment for doing bad.
The incentive (rebate) is fixed.
The disincentive (tax) is variable.
(sigh) sorry you don't understand the english language?

Why would i do that? It's not "data", it's projections.
There is actual real-world DATA, from *our* government, saying the U.S. has cut more emissions than we have.

They're entirely disconnected - it's a *dis*incentive, a punishment, a sin tax.
There is nothing anyone can do to get *more* money.
December 14, 2024 at 2:51 AM
I don't know. We (Canada) are competing with aggressive jurisdictions (U.S.) who have no penalty for carbon emissions.
And we face additional tariffs on top of that.
We can't go it alone. The world needs to agree to this, and every attempt in 30 years has failed.
December 14, 2024 at 2:49 AM
"Projected".
How's that going?
We're lagging behind the U.S. in cuts to CO2 emissions.
December 14, 2024 at 2:47 AM
That's just not true - everyone gets the same "incentive" in the form of a universal rebate.
It's not income tested or pollution tested.
The Alberta pickup truck "rolling coal" guy gets exactly the same amount as the tree hugging transit condo person.
December 14, 2024 at 2:46 AM
... and getting a lot more back!
December 14, 2024 at 1:34 AM
Fair, but they don't pay the federal carbon tax.
My point is merely that polluters *need* to pay a lot more - enough to change behaviour - for this to work.
I don't think it's politically viable for that to happen in the face of cost of living challenges.
December 14, 2024 at 1:30 AM
Carbon tax rebates do not go by income.

This is the government's gift to CUPW - they have lost their leverage, Christmas rush is over.
Canada Post needs reform and the Union is too absorbed with its workers to be a believable partner in that.
CUPW will squawk about it, but they're secretly thankful.
