The functional part is debatable.

Most studies I've read have concluded that the affect the carbon tax under its current iteration adds a less than 1% increase to food prices. The real culprit as I know most people know is the corporations capitalizing on the fear mongering over carbon tax and using it as an excuse to jack prices.

100% agree. Gone are the days that politicians cared even a little bit. It's all theatrics and taking advantage of people's feelings. We need a politician that isn't afraid to say and do the hard things, not ones that are just looking to keep their jobs for 20+ years and accomplish nothing.
